Polish Bishops Say “No!” To Amoris Laetita…Silence From Scots Hierarchy
Yesterday, 7 June, the Polish Bishops’ Conference ended its General Assembly in the Polish city of Zakopane. According to the official website of the German bishops Katholisch.de, the speaker of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Pawel Rytel-Andrianik said that the teaching of the Church with regard to Holy Communion for those people who live in non-sacramental relationships “has not changed” after the papal document Amoris Laetitia.
In their public declaration, the Polish bishops explained that Catholics in such relationships should be led “to a true conversion and to a reconciliation with their spouse and the children of that bond.” Here, the Polish bishops refer to Pope John Paul II’s post-synodal exhortation Familiaris Consortio which allows access to the Sacraments only if such “remarried” couples live in a loyally chaste relationship as brother and sister. We know that, soon after it was released, Archbishop Tartaglia of Glasgow established courses to teach his priests and teachers how to implement Amoris Laetita – which will go down in history as the first (and, we sincerely hope, the last) ever document from a Pope which openly undermines and attacks Christ’s teaching on divorce, remarriage and adultery.
Perhaps now that the Polish bishops (and some other notables) have spoken out in defence of Christian marriage, the Scots bishops will see the light and follow their good example. Or are they too far gone down the modernist road? Who knows – they may even have written to congratulate the Scottish Episcopalians on their vote to permit same-sex “marriages” in their churches. Who, as I say, knows…
It is certainly worthwhile thinking about enquiring of your local bishop as to whether or not he has or intends to instruct HIS priests and teachers to teach ONLY traditional Catholic doctrine on marriage and the Ten Commandments – all of them. Share your ideas here, on how this might best be achieved.

Bishop John Keenan has given a seminar on amoris Laeitita at Craig Lodge and defended it publically in the Scottish Catholic Observer. He’s an enemy of the Faith.

That is a scandal. I am astonished, although I really shouldn’t be after all this time. I know we’ve had blogs on Bishop Keenan before, and he is definitely an enemy of the faith but you’d think they would stop short of saying adultery is not a mortal sin when Our Lord said it was! Mortal sins prevent us from receiving Holy Communion worthily – why are these bishops afraid to explain this? They have no shame, these bishops.

Disgraceful but no surprising. Shocking, but not surprising. I recall headlining a report about Bishop Keenan as being an Enemy of the Faith in a fairly recent edition, so you have proven, once again, that while I may not always be right, I’m never wrong!

I’ve just seen the reports on Bishop Keenan’s Facebook about his Fatima pilgrimage – he says: “Given the times we live in, Our Lady’s invitation to repentance and prayer for peace has never been more necessary. Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, our Metropolitan, will preside at this month’s vigil.”
See that – Our Lady’s invitation to repentance and prayer for peace – not for the Consecration of Russia for peace!

Good on the Polish Bishops for speaking out. They seem to be very strong.
I have friends who go to Poland sometimes and they say they still kneel to receive Communion even at the novus ordo Masses and are generally more respectful in the Real Presence. To me, that shows the link between faith and morals.

I’ve heard that about Poland as well, they are very devout, even the young ones. Long may it last!
Me, too, I have heard lots of times from different people that the Poles are very devout at Mass, still kneel for Communion etc. It’s a pity they have their separate Polish Masses as it would be good to see their example around the parishes.

An excellent point. There was a superb article once on an American site, which is no longer in existence, in which the author opined that there is a definite link between liturgical abuse and sexual misbehaviour. Faith and Morals, two sides of the same coin.
I think it must be extremely difficult and problematic for a bishop to speak out against a document of the Pope’s, no matter how much he may feel pulled to do so. We need to be a little understanding – they are human, after all. How many of us would stand up to our boss without quaking?
I also wonder just how Bishop Keenan “defended” Amoris Laetitia? I didn’t see the article in the Scottish Catholic Observer. Perhaps he picked out the bits that are inoffensive and spoke about them? I would be genuinely surprised if he praised the controversial bits, although I admit, anything is possible these days.

It isn’t about the bishops being “human” and needing understanding. They don’t have an ordinary job like the rest of us. If my boss is doing the wrong thing, the worst that can happen is that he causes inefficiency. If a Pope and bishops are doing the wrong thing, they can cost souls their eternal life. There’s a big difference.
I am shocked that Archbishop Tartaglia has actually organised courses for priests and teachers to put Amoris Laetitia into practice and as for Bishop Keenan – he is a true hypocrite. He posed as an orthodox priest even pretending an interest in the Latin Mass I believe, but now that he has been promoted, he is showing his true colours. He really is an enemy of the faith as Petrus describes him above.

Why should it be difficult for a bishop to speak out against heresy? Isn’t that the essence of a bishop’s work? If he doesn’t have the courage to openly proclaim that AL contains heresy, then all he has to do is proclaim the truths of Christ’s teaching on marriage. Most people who put two and two together, come up with four… Oops… Pope Francis says X, Bishop (Name) says Y, Jesus says Y, ergo Pope Francis wrong, Bishop correct.
Simple. But then: “Truth is always simple. It is error that is immense.” (Quoting St. Irenaeus, 2nd century Bishop…)

From what I’ve read here over the years, I’d have to say there is precious little light amongst the Scottish hierarchy, though there are apparently some larger glimmers of light among your priests. And how could there be light among clergy who have surrendered to the world and to the progressivist/Modernist steamroller? That surrender is in itself, if not repented, an act of darkness and a rebellion against God.
I think it would be a waste of time enquiring of your current lot of bishops about teaching and warning against the heresy in AL. I’d say it would be more promising to try to encourage the priests to do that on their own – risking, of course, the censure of the apostates who govern them. But if priests are true to their vocation, they will “damn the torpedoes” and serve Christ, not Mammon.
Of course, someone with deep pockets could always print large quantities of a revised versions of AL with heretical Chapter 8 mysteriously missing, and mail them to every parish in Scotland! Think anyone would notice?

As we reported in the newsletter at the time, there is at least ONE Scots priest who – confronting the scandal of AL – spoke out to proclaim Catholic teaching on marriage, and “no Communion for those living OUT of Communion with Christ” so to paraphrase. At every Mass, people walked out. So, we are thankful for that one priest and hope that there are others “guilty” of the same courageous defence of Christ’s teaching.
Was that the priest who was forced to resign recently?
