Vegas Massacre: Guns Not The Cause…

Vegas Massacre: Guns Not The Cause…

Isn’t it refreshing to hear some honest discussion about the real cause, the root cause of the change in society – in this case, specifically the increased violence in the U.S.A… That it is the human condition, fallen human nature that is to blame, not guns per se…  And isn’t it good to see politicians being grilled – really grilled – by a news anchor, compared to the supine approach of  UK journalists?

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the injured and relatives of the dead, while we pray for the repose of the souls of all those who lost their lives in this senseless  attack. May they rest in peace…

Really I do not see any surprises here . Hilary Rotten Clinton would sell her Granny just to get an extra few Dollars. But to really jump on the deaths of these people before ( hardly anything is known) is scraping the Political garbage even for her . This woman to me was summed up when they left The White House and she said that The Clinton Family were ” flat Broke ” . Now I do not know the Lifelong Pension of an American President but to make a statement like that was to belittle all the Families Financially struggling in her land . Yes there is most certainly lots wrong with Western Society today the fact that it has become virtually Godless as pertaining to Christianity probably being the worst .

Hillary is morally bankrupt. But the trouble is, half of the US thinks otherwise. The election was down to the wire.

I found this online when I Googled “Second Amendment” and I wondered if it is the full text of it or if it is just someone’s idea – it does make sense when you think of it. If the people in North Korea or other dictatorships had thought like this, they may not be living in dictatorships today.

I do agree that there has been a worsening of violence in society, and if even a 48 year old can see the difference, that is saying something. It’s not the guns that kill it’s the people using them, so although I am in two minds about the American system of gun ownership, I can see that it is really only a problem today because of the deterioration in respect for the sanctity of life.

Why buy a loaf, if not to eat? Why buy a TV if not to watch?
Why buy a car if not to drive? Why buy a gun if not to KILL.Why two minds..??

        Danny McColl,

You might as well say why lock your door at night, if not to keep out an intruder. It’s a form of self-defence, keeping safe. That’s why the Second Amendment allows American citizens to own guns, not to turn them into killers but in case of the need to defend themselves against attacks, including attacks from a tyrant government.

If the leftist anti-American Obama were still in the White House (God forbid), the first thing out of his mouth would have been “gun control.” Meanwhile, ISIS is taking credit for this attack, and then there’s this:

      RCA Victor,

I saw that claim on the news, about a woman giving a “warning” before the shooting began, but it strikes me that there is something not quite right about that. Seems odd.

Also, I’m wondering about the fact that we have been told that Stephen Paddock was a model citizen, yet in your linked report we read that he was known to the authorities. Interesting, too, that the police were so quick to discount the ISIS claim, but no doubt all will be revealed in due course.

I can see the reasoning for the second amendment, and if there were no lunatics in the world, that would be good, but the fact is, there are lunatics like Stephen Paddock and that is what would make me vote for gun elimination – no guns for any reason, except armed police for obvious reasons.

I do agree, though, that it is the human condition that the politicians should be discussing (and the bishops speaking out about) more than gun laws. If we had less emphasis on “human rights” and more about human responsibility, that would be good.

HRC can’t shut up. She still thinks she is important. What happened is a joke book of the highest order. I had hoped she would retire to one of her residences funded by ill gotten gains and silently sink into the mire, but her Pride is more troublesome than I had thought.

I used to be completely against the gun culture in America and, to be frank, I thought the Americans were mad to let anyone buy a gun. Now, I have changed my mind. Seeing how a leader of a country can assume total control or oppress the people (Catalonia comes to my mind, seeing the brutality of the police over the weekend) I am now seeing the American Constitution, 2nd amendment more clearly.

We’re not used to even thinking of owning guns here in the UK but perhaps that’s a fault in us, not a good thing. It’s too easy to take the simplistic route and condemn gun ownership, and blame it for tragedies like this Vegas one, but as the newsman said in the video, it’s not about that, there will always be nutters who go on the rampage – who could forget Hungerford, in England? The issue of unequal power between the people and the rulers is becoming more of an issue in our times, IMHO, so I’ve changed my mind on the issue.

      Lily,

Interestingly, I was discussing this matter with some readers yesterday, and we found we were all saying the same thing – virtually what you have said, that over time (and with even your example of Catalonia thrown in!) in the light of contemporary developments, we have come from a position of being more or less horrified at the American gun laws, to seeing the rationale for the Second Amendment, which is, in fact, a safeguard against government tyranny – and that such tyranny is no longer a remote possibility.

      Shudder!

        Danny McColl,

The 5th commandments forbids murder, not self defence. The Church has always allowed for the need to kill another person in self defence. That’s why wars can be “just”.

Sorry but I have to disagree Lily. I wonder if there are any credible statistics to show how many acts of violence have been prevented by “good guys” with guns. We do know that every year in the USA thousands of people are killed by guns, even by children who accidentally fire weapons.
Thankfully there is not the same level of violence in this country but I shudder to think how it might escalate if guns were easily obtainable.
Are we really saying that if the citizens of Catalonia had been carrying firearms then there would have been a better outcome? A bloodbath more likely. The ballot box has to be the better way to control governments but an unofficial referendum was never going to be accepted.
The Church teaches that self defence is permissible but it does not follow that one can carry a gun just in case especially if the gun is used maybe to protect ones property. It used to be a capital offence to be caught with a gun while committing a robbery and that fact was enough to deter many criminals. If the law was change to allow householders to have guns as in the USA well the robbers would have them too and the situations would quickly get out of control.
I have found tv news clips of gun shops and the array of vicious weapons on sale to be completely shocking, especially when you see women buying them almost as fashion accessories! May God preserve us from going down that road here.

        Elizabeth,

I’ve always been of the same opinion as you, but I confess to wavering a bit now, the more I read up on the plans of the powers-that-be for a New World Order, and the closer we’re getting to it! Saying that, though, I doubt if I could ever shoot anybody, LOL!

I found this video clip of a young American who self-identifies as an orthodox Jew, being interviewed on the subject of religion and guns, and I’d be interested to know what you think of it.

I found this web page giving facts about guns in America

The stats are actually quite surprising, not what I expected at all.

        Michaela,

I looked at that stats page – to think the UK is the most violent country in the EU! I didn’t know that!

I found this clip of a discussion about gun control – I’m getting an education in this subject! LOL!

Like you, I was interested to find statistics so went searching and found this very interesting short clip with charts of statistics from Ben Shapiro.

It’s strange, all right, that the stats are not what I would expect in a huge country like America where gun ownership is allowed.

Most of us are of course deeply horrified by an incident such as this, but no doubt there will be crackpots who see it as ‘really cool’ and wish they could copy-cat.

Here in the UK there are a number of sports stadia with buildings overlooking them. Any crowd-pulling event would provide thousands for some I.S. nutcase to target from a high vantage point, Vegas-style.

Any bets on how long before it happens?

“The problem is not guns.  The problem is watered down catholicism and sin. We pray the 15 decade rosary for peace as Mary asked us to do at Fatima”.

    http://www.traditionalcatholicpriest.com/2013/04/17/catholic-gun-control-is-in-the-soul-not-the-government/

Speaking about the Rosary, one can never say too much-

Poland’s bishops have urged the nation’s Catholics to join a massive rosary prayer crusade along the country’s 2,000-mile border to pray for the salvation of their country.

Organizers say they expect up to a million people to participate in the “Rosary on the Borders” event on October 7, the anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, where “the Christian fleet overcame the Muslim armada, saving Europe from Islamization.”

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/09/27/million-christians-pray-rosary-poland-border-commemorating-defeat-islam/

Can I ask ALL readers to join in a world-wide Crusade to unite their Rosaries for this intention.

Wish we had Bishops like theirs!

    Thank you Lily,

We have to start treating the root cause instead of its symptoms!

We should feel assured that Jesus Christ said “and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The Church has ever proved indestructible

The Church has ever proved indestructible. Her persecutors have failed to destroy her. In fact, it was during times of persecution that the Church grew more and more; while the persecutors themselves, and those whom the Church would destroy, are the very ones who came to nothing.

To date (Thursday), since the shootings in LA, a further 78 people have been shot dead in America. Surely that is too high a price to pay for the right to carry arms. It might have been acceptable in the early days when you were surrounded by Indians on the war path, but there is no need nowadays.

      Vianney,

I’m not (nor is anybody else, to my knowledge) recommending that we all go out and buy guns but I found the statistics provided in the videos above very illuminating. So, in the light of those fact, I have to ask about the 78 people whom you mention – were they all murders? I do think it’s all too easy to take a simplistic position on the issue.

Someone said that if the population had had guns during the Catalonian marches last weekend, there would have been a bloodbath but the point of the American law on gun ownership is precisely that the various “security” arms of the State would think twice before oppressing the people, if they fear a fight-back.

As one of the readers pointed out during our conversation earlier this week, we are all opposed to guns automatically (excuse the pun!) because our culture has no history of an armed populace. And I do think I would be afraid living in a society where someone might whip out a gun in temper and it’s curtains Editor, Catholic Truth, but – on the other hand – I’m already living in the most violent nation in the EU. DUH!

Here’s a article with graphs to demolish the myth that the UK (with special mention of Scotland) has lower murder rates than the USA. Makes very interesting reading. I’m opening a gun shop next month, special discount for folks from Edinburgh… Go figure! 😀
