Confronting The “Gay” Priest Problem…
From The Catholic Thing…
Recently, a priest who was prominent in the pastoral care of those with sex addictions received his fifteen minutes of fame when he revealed to his congregation at a Sunday Mass and to the National Catholic Reporter that he was “gay.” According to news reports, his self-congratulation was met with thunderous applause. In a television interview, he proclaimed there is “nothing wrong with being gay.”
The game plan of a gay priest “coming out” was quite predictable and is politically effective. In revealing his homosexuality, the Midwestern priest was careful to assemble a string of ambiguous assertions that cannot be immediately assailed on grounds of orthodoxy, but when bundled together are morally subversive. Here is the template:
Claim that sexual transparency is a matter of personal integrity.
Remind the public that you are a Catholic priest in good standing.
Proudly proclaim that you are “gay.”
Cultivate the adulation of your congregation by claiming victim status and the freedom that comes from such an honest revelation.
As a pre-emptive strike against disciplinary actions by ecclesiastical authorities claim that your self-revelation is truly courageous.
Feign humility and presume you have become a necessary role model for others.
Remind us that you and all gays (and members of the alphabet soup of sexual perversion) are created in the image of God (implying our sinful neglect).
Commit to celibacy (i.e., not to marry), but carefully avoid the term “Christian chastity.”
Each of these assertions, standing alone, would likely withstand ecclesiastical censure. But when woven together, the gay agenda promoting the acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle within the Church comes into a clear focus.
The priest’s bishop also responded according to a predictable contemporary ecclesiastical template: “We support [the priest] in his own personal journey and telling his story of coming to understand and live with his sexual orientation. As the Church teaches, those with same-sex attraction must be treated with understanding and compassion.”
The bishop probably succeeded in preventing a media firestorm. He also effectively allowed the priest to rise in stature as a gay freedom fighter. The studied moral ambiguity of the clerical gay activist proved to be an effective political buzz saw. The full and beautiful teachings of Christ on human sexuality, however, were further undermined.
Faithful and orthodox Catholics are at a political disadvantage in our gay-friendly culture. We realize that same-sex inclinations – as with all seriously sinful inclinations – cause great suffering and, unrestrained, can become a true slavery that endangers others including adolescents and even young children. But our opposition to the gay agenda is often crudely characterized as hateful and unreasonable. So a brief sketch of natural law in Catholic sexual morality may be helpful. Comment:
The standards for entry to seminaries would at one time have automatically excluded candidates such as the above priest, and ought still to do so today. The strict criteria for acceptance of candidates in Catholic seminaries must be restored as a matter of the utmost urgency – yesterday is almost too late… Yes? No?

Yes.
The actions of this priest were not courageous or humble – they were utterly self-indulgent and shameful. If he has such inclinations then they are disordered and not something to be celebrated. He has caused scandal to his flock (they may not even be aware of this of course) by treating his disorder as normative and by leading them to believe that it is a normal alternative state of sexuality and/or lifestyle.
If he is serious about his faith he should affirm publicly that the only way a Catholic can integrate this condition into the life of grace is to be chaste and continent and avoid the occasions of sin.
In reality who is being ministered to by this revelation? It is not his flock – it is him – its all about him – and his flock is now expected to minister to him rather than vice versa. As I said earlier, this is self-indulgence to a degree that would indicate he is not fit to minister in Holy Orders. There are very good reasons for the Church’s rules on admission of men to Holy Orders and the exclusion of men with deeply narcissistic tendencies that tend to accompany disordered sexualities is just one of them.
Deacon Augustine,
I think you are totally correct. This is self-indulgence from priests like this one who “out” themselves but what I can never understand when I hear of these cases of congregations applauding announcements like this one, is surely there is at least one person in the church who is shocked and disapproves? Can it really be that everyone is now okay with homosexuality?
Also, “yes” that I think the seminary entrance requirements need to be strictly applied without delay to stop more of this poison getting through.
“Can it really be that everyone is now okay with homosexuality?”
This is what is particularly saddening about these cases – there was one in Dublin recently as well I believe. It seems like the whole congregation has been brainwashed into accepting the lies of the world, the flesh and the devil.
I hope it is merely indicative of the fact that people now tend to choose the Mass they attend on the basis of the kind of liturgy and teaching they receive there. He is no doubt a modernist in everything else he says and does and has probably attracted a congregation of like-mided people. Hopefully any Catholics would have got out of there a long time ago and found traditional Masses or at least Masses where the clergy are doctrinally orthodox.
It does point to the dire state of things, though, and that there is already a de facto schism within the Church.
Deacon Augustine,
Not sure if you are referring to a more recent case or the one we reported some time ago where, again, a priest outing himself received a standing ovation and support from the archdiocese of Dublin. We juxtaposed that report (in our newsletter) with another report of a Scots priest in Dublin who was sent packing home to his diocese here, for the crime of reminding the primary school teachers before a school Mass that the children should not just come up to Communion in a group – they need reminding of the need to be regularly at Mass and if not been to Confession after missing Mass, can’t come to Communion today.
Uppity teacher marched the class out of the church, and the poor priest was contacted by local radio for comment/interview and hauled into the archdiocesan office where he was asked to apologise to the furious parents. His only other option was to return to Scotland. Which he did. Dublin’s loss has been our gain.
Such is the nature of the diabolical disorientation, as the above Tale of Two Priests in the Archdiocese of Dublin, illustrates.
As for “de facto schism” – that has been the case now for many years. One of our team used to write to the Vatican even before we’d launched our newsletter, reporting all sorts of scandals, liturgical and other, and always headed his letter “Regarding the De Facto Schism of the Church in Scotland”. Nobody ever corrected his headlines. Ever. And his correspondents included top cardinals such as Cardinal Ratzinger.
Deacon Augustine,
“If he is serious about his faith…”
That’s the problem – he’s not. This type of priest doesn’t have a clue about the Faith or he wouldn’t be outing himself as “gay” – it’s all so tragic.
This is cultural Marxism inside the Church, the conditioning of weak Catholics into accepting evil as good (the smoke of Satan). A few decades ago this priest would never have made it to his second year in seminary. The old seminary rectors, professors and confessors would have been on to his inclinations and he would have been asked to leave. That’s what happened with the late comedian Kenny Everett, he was a seminarian who was asked to leave the seminary because of his homosexual inclinations. Now they applaud priests who openly declare themselves homosexual and proud of it. His pride is the pride of Lucifer and his hand-clapping congregation are very gravely in danger of becoming Lucifer’s eternal play things.
The devil is having a field day right now with these useful idiots. They cry outrage against priests who abuse young boys, a crime clearly motivated by a homosexual inclination, and then applaud a priest who tells the world that he’s homosexual and proud of it. As the Americans would say “go figure”!
Athanasius,
I think the seminary issue is the issue of the day. Until a better quality of candidate is the norm, we’re never going to get sound diocesan priests.
And you are right (this is getting to be an annoying habit!) that the devil is having a field day with these useful idiots in the pews who are so ignorant of the Faith and the nature of the moral law (that it comes from God and cannot be changed) that they would actually applaud a priest “outing” himself as being “gay” – which I have always understood as being more than mere inclination. Homosexual inclination is one thing, being “gay”, in my understanding, is being actively homosexual.
Even, though, to applaud the inclination is ridiculous. What if a priest stood up and “outed” himself as having the inclination to steal other people’s belongings – kleptomania. Would they applaud him, or make a mental note never to leave him alone with their purse/wallet.
Numpties, the lot of them.
Editor
Numpties indeed. Imagine a priest saying he had murderous inclinations against his congreagtion. Would they applaud that, I wonder? Yes, they probably would.
I didn’t know that a person “outing” himself as “gay” was an admission of homosexual activity. I just thought he was declaring himself so inclined by temperament to that particular temptation against the virtue of purity.
Athanasius,
I’m sure that is what they will say now – that “gay” means only inclination – but I can remember the distinction being made and I’m pretty sure in my own mind that if someone is happy to be outed as “gay” that means they are not merely referring to the inclination, but to emphasise that they are proud of that “orientation” – which, of course, they would not need to justify, let alone pronounce themselves “out and proud” if they were not active. Why would anyone need to know? If I’m wrong, would someone explain why they need to use the term “gay” as opposed to “homosexual”.
Editor
I can see where you’re coming from. If a Catholic “outs” himself as “gay” and declares his pride to do so then he clearly has no disgust for the inclination in his conscience as he should in accordance with divine grace. That would tend to suggest he has already given himself over to a practice very clearly condemned by the Church.
I think the term “homosexual” was too sexist for the LGBT people, who wanted all kinds of deviations for different sexes under one roof “gay”. I was told that gay is an abreviation for “Good As You.
Sounds about right. Can’t think of any other reason why these people would have stolen a word that means happy to describe what they stand for.
Athanasius,
This from the introductory “The Catholic Thing” article:
When a priest claims to be “gay and proud,” he is revealing that he has assented to his same-sex attraction. Free and deliberate thoughts have moral implications, as Jesus asserted: “But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Mt 5:28) The difference between internal assent and external action is only a matter of a sinful opportunity. An unabashed and proud “gay” priest has already committed sodomy in his heart.”
So, whether or not he has a “partner(s)” is, in one sense, irrelevant.
Yes, I’ve heard that about “gay” being an abbreviation of “Good As You”. I’d always understood that it was chosen as a word meaning “happy” and, therefore, gave a subliminal message that there was nothing wrong with homosexual activity, knowing that nobody would support the legalisation of sodomy.
I was once told a story about none other than Archbishop Mario Conti having a man dismissed from seminary due to homosexual inclinations. The old saying about even a stopped clock being right twice a day came to mind.
Certainly a seminary is no place for a man with such disordered attractions – surrounding themselves with young men is obviously no help in mastering such inclinations. A seminary is finished, should a man with homosexual leanings get into a position of authority there. He may well be inclined to tolerate or encourage the presence of a sub-culture of the type alleged to exist at Maynooth in Ireland:
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/religion-and-beliefs/archbishops-differ-over-maynooth-after-gay-subculture-claims-1.2743078
The modern social ease with homosexuality is down to the great success of the “victim” tactic used by activists to gain sympathy and support, and the fact that most people are pretty ignorant about sexuality. Encouraged by the media, secular society understands sex as a cheap form of sport, with gratification and bragging rights being the top prizes, and disease or unwanted pregnancy as the booby prizes.
Even modern Catholics have no real understanding. To hear the Church’s simple but profound (and bomb-proof) arguments on sexuality is very enlightening. Yet most Catholics are denied this and the non-thinkers in secular society can only imagine that rejection of any form of sexual behaviour can only be down to prejudice.
It’s an old trope that many (or most) Catholic priests are homosexual. The old story was that such men used the priesthood to hide from social stigma, but that doesn’t wash these days, given homosexuals are now the darlings of society (and have been for most of my 40 years, despite certain changes to the law only occurring more recently).
Perhaps some priests even believe this themselves and this belief encouraged this priest to act as he did? Maybe he was expecting many others to stand up and say the same thing?
Certainly, it is a troubling thought and such a possibility can tie-in with a lot of the odd goings-on in the Church.
Fr Z also commented on the Catholic thing article and regarding the “gay priests” allegation, he says:
I have known a few priests who were/are homosexuals. A couple of them told me they were. The rest were obvious or otherwise out. With a couple exceptions, all of those whom I have known are now dead. To be clear, I know a lot of priests. I have know very few who were/are homosexuals. I sincerely believe it is a myth that there are lot of homosexual priests.
http://wdtprs.com/blog/2018/01/the-gay-i-hate-that-word-priest-problem/
So maybe this notion is only a creation of the media, and who would be surprised at that?
Note how enemies of the Church are quick to associate allegations of homosexual corruption with expressions of Catholic tradition, such as grand liturgy and clothing such as albs. They claim only “gay” men would be drawn to elaborate ritual or items of lace clothing. Presumably they must also think dancing to a children’s band while wearing rainbow vestments must be the last word in modern masculinity.
This scandal being met with “thunderous applause” reminds me of the old Roman Empire, where crowds of pagans cheered wildly as gladiators hacked each other, and/or Christians, to pieces, or fed them to the lions. These priests, and especially the hierarchy who promote or protect them, or share in their vice, are hacking souls to pieces – to the applause of the world. What depravity!
Can you imagine the passengers on the Titanic applauding as the ship sank into the sea and drowned them? No less insane.
These perverts have been waiting and planning in the weeds a long time for a Pope like Francis, installed by the Lavender Mafia, to make their sickness acceptable – and now, apparently, even praiseworthy. It seems they are no less well-organized than the Freemasons, who agitated underground for generations until finally, with Roncalli and Montini, their flag flew over St. Peter, disguised as “reform” and “aggiornamento.”
The seminary rot described in great detail in Good-Bye, Good Men has apparently gotten even worse, at least in certain parts of Europe and America. But I have been reliably informed that Michael Rose, author of said book, is now a sedevacantist….which is the equivalent of burying your head in the sand and acting like a Protestant.
It is very interesting that the Passion of the Church should be fed by self-love, i.e. the narcissism that lies at the root of homosexuality. This is, in fact, the basest form of the self-love that drove the entire Vatican II revolution – the cult and love of man, opposed to the love of Christ.
RCA Victor,
Well said.
That’s very disappointing about Michael Rose becoming a sedevacantist. What blindness!
I thought this article was an excellent analysis of the failure of traditionalists and political conservatives to do battle: http://forge-and-anvil.com/2018/01/07/overlap-between-traditional-catholics-the-political-right/
(First time I’ve come across this blog)
Doing battle, I might add, means, among other things, exposing and fighting the homosexual takeover of the Church. This faithful priest provided a good model for us: https://torontocatholicwitness.blogspot.ca/2018/01/exclusive-fr-john-oconnor-on-gay.html
RCA Victor,
That second link is very interesting – I noted this sentence:-
“Slowly, but surely, the evil of sexual depravity drives a person insane. ”
That would fit with the extreme reactions of the LGBT people when they are challenged in any way, they become very disturbed and it shows.
I read somewhere that as part of the normalisation process, all the research done in the USA on mental health among homosexuals, was destroyed.
Would you know anything about that?
Margaret Mary,
I never heard that, but if you Google “research on homosexual mental health destroyed” you’ll find quite the opposite: numerous articles on the poor mental health of homosexuals.
Let’s face it the majority of our clergy might have homosexual inclinations…remember the seminary (Maynooth wasnt it?) where lots of seminarians were caught on a gay dating site?
An ex-seminarian told me that in one English seminary you only had to tap a fellow seminarian’s bedroom door a certain way to request gay sex.
Lots of our clergy are effeminate. Lots of them are probably gay.
Either way no priest has ever stood at the pulpit and said im straight. Neither should they declare they are gay. If youve taken vows of celibacy it doesnt really matter.
We assume (pray) that these people will leave the seminary but who knows how many get through and still are sexually active?

I have maintained for a long while now that the NHS in the UK is on its knees owing to the cost of treating STDs and carrying out abortions, vasectomies and other evil acts. I don’t know if the information would be available under FOI but I wouldn’t would put too much faith in their answers anyway.
They cover it all up by blaming the “ageing population”.
I don’t see any difference in the practice of sodomy from someone shoving
lead piping, clothes pegs or 6″ nails into their bodies and yet it is not only accepted as a normal act but strongly encouraged. I suppose if you are depraved it will obviously be enjoyable.
The joke is that if you were caught picking your nose in a public you would be called a filthy pig.
