Red Alert! Scotland’s Snowpocalypse?

Red Alert! Scotland’s Snowpocalypse?

Comment:

I’ve been obeying the Government for once, and stayed indoors today. The snow just keeps coming… and I just keep asking what on earth is causing this?

Or is nothing on earth causing this?  I’ve no idea, but I hear what our Transport Minister has been saying on this evening’s news, which has mostly been about the weather:  this level of snow is unprecedented.  This is the first ever “red” alert warning in Scotland, which means life is in danger.

Personally, I’ve no idea what’s causing this, and the scientists seem to have gone to ground.  In any event, I’m not convinced by the Climate Change industry’s theories about population control and plastic bags.  What about you?

Well glaciers are melting so there appears to be warming. However, the claim that it is the result of carbon dioxide caused by burning fossil fuels is a theory. They say it is a fact but apparently in Medieval times there was also a warming period even greater than the one today which enabled Greenland to be populated from Denmark and that clearly had nothing to do with human activity. I think the scare is being promoted to convince people that humans are a danger to the planet and we need to get rid of them so abortion and population control and reducing CO2 emissions is part of that agenda. It is still the culture of death. We have seen the same distortion of science regarding evolution. It is now clear that Darwin’s theory is not scientific but the agenda insists on it being presented as a fact because if true life occurred naturally by chance from inanimate minerals, liquids and gases in the primeval Earth. That is why astronomers are always looking for sign of water on other planets and are desperate to show that life exists somewhere else. Now we have scientific evidence from the Michelson Morley experiment in the 1880’s suggesting that the Earth is not moving. If true this means that the whole universe is rotating around the Earth and therefore the Copernican principle is wrong. This could have been tested by performing the Michelson Morley experiment on the Moon but they declined to do that – I wonder why. Modern science has been hijacked and on issues which relate to moral issues, science is used to promote fake science to keep people thinking there is no God.

      Charles,

I agree about the distortion of science for immoral ends – abortion and population control top of the list; the entire environmental movement is definitely all part of the culture of death, to which Pope John Paul II referred. That’s why it is shocking to see Pope Francis in a prominent position on the bandwagon.

As for “fake science used to keep people thinking there is a God” – spot on. Absolutely.

I’m guessing the “apocalyptic” snow headline is because of the Scottish Government’s growing immorality – between legalising same-sex marriage and wanting to pay for abortions for women from northern Ireland, and supporting transgenderism there seems no end to it and I, for one, wouldn’t be surprised if this extreme weather has nothing to do with “man-made” global warming and more to do with God’s wrath. God is master of his own universe so he can do what he wants with the weather and he has been known to use it to show his displeasure in the past.

I definitely agree it’s got nothing to do with population growth or plastic bags, LOL!

      Fidelis,

It’s obviously not “PC” to consider God in any way punishing people, but you make a thoughtful point.

I definitely agree with your closing sentiment – especially since we’re running short of both people and plastic bags since the introduction of contraception and the 10p charge respectively!

That transport minister is too busy fluttering his long luscious eyelashes to speak any sense. Unprecedented indeed! He must think that the central belt is the centre of the universe! We get that kind of snow fairly regularly and so do many areas of Scotland.

      Helen,

I completely disagree. I’ve never seen anything like this – ever. And you look too young to be able to remember the bad winter of 2010! 😀

This is unprecedented in our part of Scotland, trust me. I’ve found watching the constant snowfalls and blizzards today more suspenseful than any murder mystery.

Do we take it that you think a few plastic bags are to blame for these extreme weather conditions?

O, and as for the transport minister’s “luscious eyelashes”? Wouldn’t be my description – which, again trust me, you really don’t want to hear!

      Helen,

I also disagree with you – this is the first time a red alert has been issued in Scotland so wherever you live in Scotland, your weather has never been this bad.
I’m puzzled that anyone would actually fail to see the seriousness of this extreme weather. If God is sending us a warning, he’ll be less than pleased at anyone who dismisses it!

OK Editor, I thought you were tired of conspiracy theories! Well, here’s another one: weather control. The US Air Force admitted long ago that they have the ability to control the weather through a program called HAARP. Read this, and in the included video, the “Dr. Walker” referred to appears just after 2:50, and admits exactly what the article says he admits:

    http://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/air-force-bombshell-admits-they-can-control-weather-haarp/

To get right to the bottom line, Dr. Walker admits that they achieved the ability to control the ionosphere through HAARP!

However, if this heavy snow pummeling Scotland is due to weather control, one wonders why tiny Scotland is being targeted, unless some sort of experimental procedure is being tested. Maybe they’re trying to freeze out the Loch Ness monster!

Or, to raise my silly thinking above the profane and into the supernatural, if this is indeed weather control, then perhaps God is using this satanic instrument to punish Scotland, as Fidelis posted above. I would like to point out, though, that Scotland’s sins go way beyond the current legislation of immorality. Let’s start with John Knox…..

    • editor

      RCA Victor,

I know about HAARP (although will read your link later to refresh my memory of the details) but I can never see the rationale – if they can control the weather, why not make it baking hot for us all the time!

As to why they would target Scotland – that’s easy; just to annoy me! I detest snow and ice, always have done, so that explains that 😀

    • Vianney

RCA Victor, it’s not just Scotland that is being singled out, most of Europe is getting similar weather. The Low Countries, Germany and Poland are getting it bad as well and in Croatia the snow is the heaviest they have known in many a long year. One person told me that she was speaking to a Spanish friend and Spain is getting the bad weather too. Madrid is having the coldest winter anyone can remember.

      RCA Victor,

I’ve read that link and it is really interesting. I copied the concluding paragraph, although the whole article is a must-read:

“This is not the first time a public official has acknowledged that HAARP and weather control is not only possible, but has been and continues to be, used as a “super weapon,” as evidenced by a statement in 1997 by former U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen, where he said “Others [terrorists] are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves… So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations…It’s real, and that’s the reason why we have to intensify our [counterterrorism] efforts.”
Is it still just a conspiracy theory if public officials admit it is true?”

That is frightening. It seems incomprehensible why anyone would do that – for terrorist purposes? Just to scare everyone? Excuse me for asking what is probably a stupid question but – why? What do they gain?

I don’t think it anything of concern is behind this. We don’t often get snow like this in the central belt, but it does happen every so often.

I take a very British attitude to the weather and like to think I remain stoic in the face of this adversity!

(No doubt I am greatly flattering myself there – haha!).

I am pretty unmoved by the whole business. There’s no doubt the weather is extreme by Scottish standards, but I can think of at least 2 occasions where I would say we have had equally bad snow. Once in the 1980s: I can remember us having to take a sledge to the supermarket, (to carry the bags home), because the car wasn’t going anywhere fast and another time maybe 5-6 years ago.

I drove to work and the conditions were a wee bit dicey and the journey took maybe 20-30 mins longer than usual. I saw one lorry struggling to get up an incline which was causing a bit of a jam behind it.

One of my colleagues managed to arrive safely at work via train and bicycle as usual, albeit a bit later than normal.

We were sent home at lunchtime, due to the excitement over the weather warnings which had been issued. My drive was much better on the way home, which much improved conditions. I saw a lorry which had jack-knifed on the other carriageway and busted up some crash barriers. I believe some people who decided to leave later than me got stuck on the M80 motorway in snow.

I think both the “Scottish Government” and the media are responsible for creating panic. We all know how self-important the SNP administration is, and how easily they fall into melodrama.

This “red alert” which was issued is a good example of how OTT things were. Why they could not just say that “there will be heavy snow and due care should be taken”, I do not know. I suppose a simple warning is much less “Hollywood” than a “Red Alert”.

As for the media, they stoked the fires of hysteria in the run up to this, referring to the incoming weather front as the “Beast from the East” – it’s just ridiculous.

For all the drama from politicians and journalists, I saw a grand total of 3 snow-ploughs on the roads, once of which was only travelling and was not clearing snow or gritting. I also saw a tractor clearing a section of hard-shoulder on the motorway (why, I do not know). Quite a muted response I thought, compared to the colourful language used.

Usually what happens is that even the slightest dusting of snow means the Scottish authorities get “caught with their pants down” in terms of keeping transport moving. I think this year, they decided to really over-egg things in the run up to the snow, as a way of getting their excuses in first.

I am 100% confident that people in Scandinavia, Russia, parts of the USA etc, would be rolling about laughing at us, if they could hear our politicians and media panicking over the few inches of snow we have got.

2010 was worse, with giant icicles hanging from gutters and pavements piled with snow like WW1 trenches. I had been working in Finland in December a few years back, cobbled streets and trolley buses and taxis galore…everything worked.

        St Miguel,

I disagree. 2010 was bad, yes, but I remember very clearly going out and about. When I saw what was before my stunned eyes this morning, I cancelled all sorts of appointments (including a hair/beautify appointment, yes, it’s that serious) and have stayed home all day, having looked out candles and matches in case the electricity gets cut off. Trust me, this is the worst ever (unless you – like Gabriel Syme – were around in the 80’s… 😀 )

        Petrus,

Glad somebody else remembers 2010 – I’m surprised it only lasted 5 hours, but I do know that, as you say, the consistent, unrelenting snowfall of the last couple of days is unprecedented. This morning, my windows are like a Christmas card, covered in snowflakes – incredible.

      • editor

        Cheeky Vianney,

I always send out religious cards – I even make a point an apostolate out of going into card shops and asking if they have any religious cards and when I get the usual puzzled look, I say “Well, it IS a religious feast, you know, Christmas….”

Last Christmas a customer dallying beside me (pretending, as it turned out, to be looking at the cards beside me) walked out with me and expressed her delight that I had said what I’d said, saying that she also only buys religious cards.

So, just as I’m taking just about everyone else OFF my Christmas card list for one reason or another, chiefly for annoying me in some way, I’m putting you ON my Christmas card list for next year just to say “told you so” – with something like this on the inside cover…

      Gabriel Syme,

I don’t want any mention of where I live and move and have my being, except that I live in the central belt, well, Glasgow to be precise, without giving more detail (!) but right now the snow is still falling outside my home, and hasn’t stopped all day, except for a minute or two, now and again… more “again” than “now” if you get my drift (“drift”… snow…. get it?!) Seriously, I will soon not be able to see the roof of my garden shed, so I am surprised, to say the least, by your comment.

Of course, it may have been worse in the 80’s …. long before my time 😀

My own memory, however, while it is not the best on most things, tends to remember snow. Big time. I hated it as a child, I detested it as an adult, and I totally loathe it now that I’ve moved further along the line to identify as an even older adult (!) so I think I’d remember if we’ve had worse – not worse than today, from what I can remember, that’s for sure.

And since this latest bout of snow and blizzard is coming FROM Russia, or so they tell us, I doubt if they’ll be laughing at us – hopefully commiserating, because it’s really nothing to laugh about; I’m thinking of the elderly who may be suffering on a number of levels, especially if they’ve run out of bread or milk. Me, I’ve been practising my baking skills and made a small loaf today, can you believe, which is just about edible. If only I hadn’t run out of butter…. Gotcha! Kidding! Still, spare a thought for those who may be short of supplies, not yet caught up with those of us who have started stocking Long-Life milk, since we’re not quite at that stage in life where we wouldn’t think of buying an un-ripened banana. 😀

I’m delighted, though, that you made it to and from work without serious incident. Still, she said, unable to resist, given that you don’t rate this “Beast from the East” as any kind of threat, I’m kinda surprised that you took up the boss’s offer to go home early…

      Gabriel Syme,

Media-driven hype and hysteria about the weather is common on this side of the pond as well. Apparently it results in more newspapers sold, more ads purchased on TV and radio, more internet hits on sites, more groceries and other supplies sold in markets, etc. Panic = more profits.

As for a “Red Alert,” I think that would be much better applied to the political ideology that is sweeping over and destroying the once-Christian West…..

        RCA Victor (and Gabriel Syme)

I do agree that very often, if not most of the time, the weather reports are more suited to the Drama channel than to the news broadcasts, and I must admit that even this time, I’m noting that the news anchors and reporters managed to make it to work without too much problem (one reporter admitted being nervous and having difficulty) so I do get what you mean or, to put it more politically correctly, I hear what you’re saying…

However, while I don’t generally take the weather reports too seriously – they’ve been wide of the mark too often, and sometimes it’s difficult to know if they are forecasting for Scotland or England – seeing is believing, as they say, and what I see outside my window (with much difficulty this morning since they’re all covered with snow!) on this occasion matches the forecasts.

I’ve been told this weather will clear today, and so tomorrow will be OK. I sincerely hope so. I can’t be bothered making another loaf!

        Petrus,

I’ve been working hard all day, pinny on, as you say, and my kitchen is beginning to look like a branch of Gregg’s Bakery. This because the relatives ringing me in (alleged) concern at my plight, tell me that we are likely to be snowbound for several more days, maybe into next week. I sincerely hope they’re wrong, because I have things to do (such as worshipping my Maker) and people to see (none from the Vatican) although I have to say, in all humility, I do believe my enforced baking practice is paying dividends…

Gabriel Syme, to be fair, the Red Alert was issued by the Met Office and not the Government. Let’s be honest, the UK is hopeless when it comes to things like bad weather. They always get caught out and are never prepared to I can understand them being cautious and issuing warnings. The Government said yesterday that people should aim to be home for 3pm and in Edinburgh all offices and shops closed early to let staff get home, and around 3.30pm the snow started falling very heavily and there were blizzards. I think they were right issue a warning.

While Scotland – and, it seems, much of Europe – is getting buried under record snowfalls, we are having record rainfalls in the Ohio River Valley, USA, with extensive flooding, and more rain on the way:

I’ve been reading a scientific report that admits “weather is naturally chaotic”

I do think we need to interpret the signs of the times, definitely. I don’t see God as “sending” bad weather but IMHO it’s no coincidence that the weather is getting more and more severe, the more we turn away from God.

Weather warning have not been in operation that long, I believe it originated from America to warn people of approaching tornados and the idea seems to have spread. Providing the weather does not deteriorate, Scotland wins again on the temperature front!

    http://www.theweek.co.uk/weather/92023/is-2018-the-coldest-uk-winter-on-record

“The coldest single temperature ever recorded in the UK is claimed, unsurprisingly, by Scotland. In 1895 and 1982, Braemar in Aberdeenshire hit an overnight low of -27.2°C, a temperature matched in 1995 by Altnaharra in the Highlands”.

However, I also agree with the other comments that by turning our back on God will result in Him leaving us to our own devices and subsequent peril!

As RCAVictor points out that America had used “weather control” through HAARP, Scalar weapons have also been developed – “weapons which now further refined are so powerful that just by satellite one can: make a nuclear like destruction; earthquake; hurricane; tidal wave; cause instant freezing – killing every living thing instantly over many miles; cause intense heat”….

    http://www.angelfire.com/oz/cv/scalarweapons.html

I remember hearing about this, may have been from Fr. Malachy Martin.

After all that depressing news I thought I would quote St Teresa of Avila

    “Let nothing disturb you,
    Let nothing frighten you,
    All things are passing away:
    God never changes.
    Patience obtains all things.
    Whoever has God lacks nothing;
    God alone suffices.”

Today, a friend who is not online, rang me to make sure I’m surviving the weather. I was telling her about this thread and she said that she had been thinking herself that this may be God’s way of reminding us of our vulnerability – the whole of the UK and Ireland has just about ground to a halt, and all because of some snowfall. As someone remarked in a TV discussion yesterday, criticising the media coverage (also criticised by some on this blog) “the Beast from the East has become Hysteria from Siberia”… Love it!

Anyway, the chat reminded me of the 2010 severe weather, with the same round of news reports from here, there and everywhere across the country – just as we’re seeing these past few days.

Then, after some days of this, one news report began with the camera close to the reporter who reminded us of the persistent snowfall, its depth, the problems with transport, the advice to stay at home etc. over recent days and then, slowly, the camera moved away from him, until he threw up his hands and said words to the effect “and now this” – it had all gone. Amazing.

We had wakened up to clear roads, snow gone, back to normal (i.e. rain and wind!)

The point was made, but it was great to hear him saying that, for all the talk of the work that had gone in to dealing with the crisis, that there were all sorts of plans afoot that day to get the transport running again etc…. suddenly, no need. It had cleared, and that without any help from any of us, including the “all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing Government” …

My friend pointed out that – more than punishing us all – God is simply reminding us that we need Him, that we are very vulnerable without Him and He wants to remind us of this truth.

And I think she speaks for us all – I can’t think that anyone would challenge that interpretation…

Unlike the scientists, God really doesn’t expect us to make/control the weather – He merely uses it from time to time to remind us that we rely on Him… IKEA now, is a different kettle of creation…
