June & Love for the Sacred Heart…

June & Love for the Sacred Heart…

As always on our devotional threads, we may discuss any issues involved, and post favourite prayers, hymns, images, videos, stories etc. in order to pay tribute to, and spread, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.   This month provides a golden opportunity for priests to preach the deep love of Christ for us and for us to show our love for Him in a special way, during this month traditionally devoted to expressing our love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This devotion to the merciful Sacred Heart of Jesus is of particular importance in these times when a false mercy is being preached, even within the Church.  O Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in Thee.

Comment:

Do we all have at least one image of the Sacred Heart in our homes?  If not, why not?

What a beautiful rendering of such a lovely hymn. A beautiful feast. In the light of all the nastiness of the last wee whilie how nice a break it is! A very happy feast day to all bloggers.

I love the hymn, also. I love all the traditional hymns to the Sacred Heart. Sweet Heart of Jesus is one of my favourites, so I found this on YouTube to post here

That is one of my most favourite hymns. I also love To Jesus Heart All Burning which is beautifully sung at the top of the page.

I have one image which is just a postcard reproduction of the famous Pompeo Batoni painting. I purchased it many years ago in Rome, in the Church of the Gesù, brought it home and had it framed.

It is in many ways a great old friend, and certainly one of the things that makes home seem like home.

We tend to forget all to easily — or at least I do — that as Christians we are disciples of a person, the divine person of the Son of God made man, not of a doctrine or an ideology. For me, the Sacred Heart sums up and keeps alive the why of God’s becoming man.

      Prognosticum,

That’s a lovely way of putting it – a beautiful post, in fact.

I have a small image of the Sacred Heart in my home, as well, ever since I read that one of the twelve promises Our Lord made is to bless every place where an image of the Sacred Heart is exposed and honoured

I love the month of June! I thought I would post this Litany. It must please God to hear his Son praised with these titles!

I have a small image of the sacred heart on a card, with the associated promises on the back of the card. I keep meaning to display it somehow, but have been very remiss and have not actually managed it yet.

This welcome thread is the kick up the…..er, is the encouragement I need to stop procrastinating and “get it done”.

    🙂

I’ve posted this info before, but here goes again, in case anyone hasn’t read it. The DEFINITIVE book on the Sacred Heart devotion can be found here:-
    https://www.tanbooks.com/index.php/devotion-to-the-sacred-heart-of-jesus-how-to-practice-the-sacred-heart-devotion.html

The cover states that this book “is not ‘just another book on the Sacred Heart devotion’, but it can be truly said to be THE book on this devotion. Written by the spiritual director of St Margaret Mary, the book comes from the pen of a man intimately familiar with every aspect of the revelations given by Our Lord to this famous saint; thus the book is actually the ‘key’ to understanding the importance and the centrality of the Sacred Heart devotion for our lives as true Catholics. But even more than being THE book on the Sacred Heart devotion, Fr Croiset’s work is a revelation to us all just why so few people become great saints, just why so few Catholics – despite going frequently to the Sacraments – fail really to grow in the life of grace and make great progress in the spiritual order. ‘Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ was actually commissioned by Our Lord Himself through St Margaret Mary, and as the author neared completion of it, the Saint told him that Our Lord said it was so completely in accord with His wishes, that it would never be necessary to make any change in it. Later she revealed to Fr Croiset that it was Our Lord Himself who had inspired him with the ideas in this book and that it was so pleasing to Him that ‘none other but Himself could have arranged everything so much to His wishes . . . ”

The Sacred Heart triumphs on this one…Intercommunion booted out!
Cardinal Marx, gas down to a peep.

However the 3rd reason is interesting….’Ecumenism’ wrecked this mad proposal.

This is a beautiful thread! I love the old hymns to the Sacred Heart, just sorry I’m only getting here near the end of the month.

I, too, have an image of the Sacred Heart in my home (living room, to be precise) and I also have a small pic of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It’s just so sad that so few Catholics have holy images on display in their homes. They’re not shy of putting a statue of the wee fat buddha, though, shame on them. Mind you, when I asked a Catholic relative why she had one on her shelf in her living room, she replied that she thought it was just a wee ornament. I kept shtum!
