Informed Choice: Should Catholics Campaign For Televised Abortions?

The Catholic Church has opened a “pro-life office” in Scotland to co-ordinate a campaign against abortion in a move described by pro-choice campaigners as a “backlash” after the Republic of Ireland voted to overturn a ban.
One of the country’s most senior Catholic clerics, Archbishop Leo Cushley (pictured below), cut the ribbon at the campaign hub in Edinburgh three days after the referendum in the Republic which delivered a landslide victory for the repeal side , by 66.4 per cent to 33.6 per cent…
Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Herald, Archbishop Cushley said the new pro-life office at the Gillis Centre in Edinburgh would aim to build a “democratic consensus” around “legislative change” in Scotland, where it is legal to end a pregnancy during the first 24 weeks...
Archbishop Cushley said: “One of the many lessons of the recent referendum in Ireland is that those of us who seek to promote a culture of life have a distance to go in terms of winning over hearts and minds to the pro-life cause and that, really, is one of the key tasks of our new pro-life office. If people see the reality of abortion – if they see the “products” of abortion – arms, legs, heads, various organs – lying in dishes in what has been, for that baby boy or girl, a death camp, the pro-lifers will soon “win over hearts and minds”. Until then, the pro-life organisations will go on paying for premises and glossy brochures (not to mention salaries) that make not one jot of difference to those same hearts and minds.

Instead of worrying about presentation and not upsetting anyone, the pro-life activists must come to realise that it is ONLY by upsetting the pro-abortion lobby and the wider public that they will have any chance of ending the State-sanctioned murder of the unborn in the UK.
Just think of the publicity, the headlines, the TV interviews, the radio discussions, if, instead of announcing a new office, Archbishop Cushley had announced the launching of an important and very serious campaign to give women genuine choice by allowing us all to see abortions being performed. Tact and Diplomacy hasn’t worked, and it won’t work now. In fact, it never works. Just ask Pontius Pilate…

No chance of A late term Abortion being shown on mainstream TV especially not the Pro Abortion Pro Homosexual Transgender BBC nor would it be shown on ITV and no chance on Channel 4 . Off course there should be a late term Abortion shown but which TV Station would do it . It also amazes me that many Catholics think an Abortion is just some sort of thing like going to the toilet they don’t want to know. As for the Referendum in Ireland last week would it have made a difference personally I think not . In fact am sure that the front runners for Abortion would have made out that it wasn’t real and was just more Catholic Propaganda. If one had to buy a Chewing Gum which was the most product using Abortion and it said on the side that this Gum has Abortion Enhancement flavouring am sure we would be sick . I agree that televising the gory, barbaric details of an abortion would have a huge impact on the culture of death, the culture of disposable babies, the culture of convenience, the culture of self-gratification, the culture of “choice.” The women who are killing their babies, the “doctors” who perform these unspeakable acts of child sacrifice, and the narcissistic fools who describe this as a woman’s right, don’t want to face the horror of what they are doing. The don’t want their consciences disturbed, let alone the consciences of the public. An informed conscience, after all, is a big taboo these days.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a woman friend years ago on the way into one of our beautiful Catholic Churches. We had to walk by a large crucifix with a life-sized bloody Corpus on it in order to get to the door. My ultra-liberal friend shook her head and opined that children should never have to look at such a bloody sight, as it would scare them.
I replied that countless children had been inspired to love Our Lord by looking at this same image. Then I sarcastically remarked, “Oh, you mean those same children who were fortunate enough to have lived all the way to childbirth, instead of being aborted by their mothers?”
Needless to say, that friendship didn’t last very long…
I wonder if there are any old Hollywood movies on the subject of child sacrifice. If so, those should be dug up out of the vaults and shown again…frequently.

I’ve had that same conversation with more than one person and I always say that kids today are up to two in the morning watching horror movies, so they’re not likely to be upset by a crucifix.

Spot on. I have heard the same criticism from so called Catholics about teaching children about Hell. A year or two ago, one woman, a member of a group from Edinburgh who were praying the Rosary at Glasgow Cross to mark the Feast of St John Ogilvie, was chatting to my teenage Great-Nephew, who was stunned when she said that she disapproved of teaching children about Hell, too frightening for them!
She was no spring chicken, so should have known better – for one thing, she should have known that Our Lady showed the three Fatima children a vision of Hell, which WAS terrifying, but, er, isn’t that the whole point of Hell?

I see in the news that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon proposes to encourage immigration into Scotland on the basis that the over-65 population is forecast to increase in coming years by about 25% whereas the working population is forecast to increase by 1%, meaning that Scotland will be unable to support its elderly citizens – hence the need for more immigrants.
It would be very interesting in, say 20 years time, to compare (if only it could be measured) how many Scottish babies had been lost due to the use of contraceptives and legalised abortion against how many immigrants had been encouraged to arrive to make up the forecasted shortfall in the budget for the care of the elderly. My guess is that the lost Scottish lives would easily outweigh the flow of immigrants. Those young and patriotic lives would have easily balanced the books, had they been allowed to be conceived and to live.
And so, once again, we see how mankind, in his wish to do his own thing, has failed to see the wisdom God in the great order of things.
On this evening’s National news there is talk of Retirement Homes and Nursing Care Agencies having to tell residents that care for their residents can no longer be guaranteed once the residents’ money runs out. To my eye, that will lend fuel to those who are calling for Euthanasia – if you cannot pay, you will have to be put away.
All this suggests that the televising of the abortion process, with no faded-out shots as the dismembered body parts fall out into the sluice pan, ought to be allowed, and should be compulsory viewing in School biology lessons too.

Absolutely, abortions should be televised – without a doubt.
The public would be horrified, as I’ve seen young men being horrified when they stop at an Abort 67 display and say they had no idea it was a real baby. Without a doubt, the television of abortions, of all types, would change people’s minds – except those who are already well aware and don’t care.
We seem to be of one mind, so far. I think televising these barbaric operations would really make a massive difference. We really COULD have a proper debate then, as the issue was be black and white; either this is a human being with arms and legs etc, or it’s not. If it IS – well, can we really justify the killing… under ANY circumstances?

I think showing the reality of abortion is very powerful. Clearly the supporters of this evil simply put the actual details of it out of their mind.
When I was at school they used to show “The Silent Scream” to 5th and 6th year pupils. This really drove home that abortion is murder.

I saw the Channel 4 list of operations already shown, and I know there have been childbirths shown so there’s really no justifiable reason why they can’t show an abortion as well.

I have just been alerted by Lifesitenews.com, that an abortion clinic in Kansas city, Missouri have stopped carrying abortions because they do not have an abortionist. How temporary this is I have no idea, I for one will pray that it will be permanent.

That is interesting. I suspect that working in the abortion industry in any capacity will eventually cause some sort of mental disorder – human beings surely can’t go on committing or witnessing murder and not be adversely affected by it. Years ago I used to work in a job centre. The local abortuary used to place advertisements for cleaners (I would never submit anyone to these vacancies on grounds of conscience – that was accepted by management at the time, but I doubt if it would be now). Although the abortuary paid top dollar for cleaners – way above the local average, I noted that they could never keep staff and were always re-advertising. I strongly suspect that those employed just couldn’t stomach it after a while.

Other end of the telescope: the purpose of this WMF is not to celebrate families as we know and understand the term, it is to legitimize the perversion of families. Hence the appearance of Fr. Martin, the Church’s champion of perversion.

I more or less agree with you although I think the rationale is more likely to be along the lines of “keeping up appearances”. If they can pretend that they are still valuing “the family” and the idiotic, religiously illiterate laity can be rounded up in sufficient numbers to make a show, then they can push, by stealth almost, the evil concept of “different types of families”. Thus they can camouflage the reality of what they are actually doing, which is promoting homosexuality and other deviances (cohabitation etc).
Definitely, this whole Irish debacle is clearly confirmation of what Sister Lucy said about the diabolical disorientation to come which includes the devil’s final attack on the family.

This World Meeting of Families in Ireland is the pinnacle of mockery of the Holy Family.
Yesterday there was a minute’s silence for the loss of life at Grenfell. Clerics falling over themselves to lead prayers (tv cameras everywhere). A train driver stopped his train for a minute to commemorate the dead. Hymns,people in the street lighting candles, vigils etc. What struck me was the value that people (rightly) hold for LIFE and yet the majority of the grieving would statistically STILL be pro-abortion…I just don’t get it.

Not only is James Martin SJ not being corrected by his superiors, he has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the Irish World Meeting of Families in Dublin in August? Could you, I mean COULD you, makes this stuff up?
The closest he’s come to being “corrected” by a superior is when Cardinal Sarah reviewed his book. Not enough.
