29/9: Feast of St Michael, Archangel…

29/9: Feast of St Michael, Archangel…

In today’s Gospel, Matthew 18:1-10, Our Lord warns of scandals, and holds up the innocence of a child as the yardstick for entry into Heaven. Christ also warns of dire eternal consequences for those who scandalize children: “See that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, that their Angels in Heaven always see the face of My Father Who is in Heaven.”

Given the horrendous scandals afflicting the Church today, let us pray, fervently, to St Michael, the warrior saint, on this, his Feast day, for all the graces necessary for each one of us to keep faith at this time; and for great graces, too, for the Pope and other members of the hierarchy and clergy, that we see an end to the evil raging within the souls of those responsible for causing and/or covering up the abuse of children and vulnerable adults in recent years.

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle;
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host,
By the power of God,
Cast down into Hell, Satan, and all wicked spirits,
Who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

    Happy Feast of St Michael!

    I think it’s a great idea to pray for the Pope and Church today to the warrior Saint Michael. His prayer is very powerful, and is sure to win graces.

    Maybe we could also pray for the genuine victims of abuse by clergy because they are being scandalised and driven from the Church. Those responsible will be punished at the Judgment.

    I found this shocking report which shows just how desperately we need to pray to St Michael today, of all days. https://yournewswire.com/catholic-priests-satanic-child-vatican/

      Lily,

      That is a truly shocking, shocking report. As you say, it shows just how desperately we need to pray to St Michael today.

      Defend us in this day of battle!

      Lily,

      I couldn’t believe what I was reading in that link – it’s just staggering what is going on in the Church right now. I’m genuinely lost for words.

      I know it’s a bit late in the day, but I will be praying to St Michael on his Feast day for the Church.

    A very happy Feast of St Michael, Archangel, to all CT bloggers!

    He is a very powerful saint – I’ve been present when his prayer was said in the midst of evil and the sense of evil was extremely strong. It’s a real prayer of exorcism so I urge everyone to pray it today for the Church.

    I found this YouTube video which is a great help to meditation on the St Michael Prayer. I thought I’d share it with everyone here.

    I wish all CT bloggers a very happy and holy Feast of St Michael, just sorry it’s so late in the day!

    I love these devotional threads and this is a most appropriate one in the circumstances of the clergy abuse scandals and the scandal of this pontificate, so I’m very surprised to see so few comments.

    I’m also surprised that not everyone who voted in the poll knows that belief in angels is an article of the faith, and so we are obliged to believe in angels. I’ve just checked and nearly 20% who voted think it’s optional and 5% don’t know!

      Laura,

      I love the devotional threads, too.

      I am not too surprised at the ignorance regarding angels – a surprising number of Catholics think they are mythical figures and we are not obliged to believe them. Wrong! Here’s a catechism on angels written by Fr John Hardon SJ (RIP) – the belief in the existence of angels is a dogma of the Faith.

    Sorry it’s so late in the day. I remembered reading this story of the marine during the Korean war being saved by St Michael. This young man whose name happened to be Michael was taught this prayer ‘Michael, Michael of the morning….’ Read the story, but I suggest that you put the sound to silent as there is annoying music which distracts one from the story.

      Theresa Rose,

      I switched the sound off as you suggested and thus enjoyed the story. I emailed it to some young relatives – it’s this sort of true story that helps build the faith, especially for young people, so a sincere thank you for posting it.

    Please could all bloggers pray for the happy repose of the soul of one of our parishioners in Corpus Christi church, Athlone, in Ireland. I’m putting it in this thread as she died this afternoon, on the feast of St. Michael.

      Spiritus,

      Sounds likely to have been a holy and happy death on this lovely Feast.

      I will, of course, remember to pray for the soul of your fellow parishioner, RIP

    Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread, in honour of St Michael, Archangel.

    I’ll close it now, but let’s keep praying to this great saint for an end to the scandals afflicting the Church at this time. Let’s finish as we began, with the powerful prayer of exorcism…

    Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle;
    Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
    And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host,
