Brexit Battle, Deal/No Deal, EU Army… Does It Matter To Catholics?
As the week ahead looks set to be exciting, politically, to put it mildly, the selection of opinions in the video clip below provide food for thought…

As the Brexit Battle heats up, and the UK is becoming more divided by the nano-second, we learn that the long-standing desire of the EU to build its own army is now being pushed by the French President – click here to read more. So, perhaps it’s time to reassess our thinking on the whole European project and the question of the moral, Catholic attitude to Brexit.
Is there a “Catholic” attitude to Brexit, or is it acceptable for a Catholic to be a “remainer” or a “brexiteer” as individuals choose? And what about those Catholic politicians who are being less than loyal to their leader. Are they right to be calling for a vote of confidence in Theresa May’s leadership, or should they humbly submit to her authority, in the Gospel spirit of “Give unto Caesar”…
Tell us what you think of the agreement/deal currently causing so much controversy – assuming you’ve read and understood all 585 pages that is… 😀

I voted to leave the EU and I’m dismayed to see the efforts to de-rail Brexit by swathes of the political classes. They are openly contemptuous of democracy, the same system which gives them a job and puts food in their bellies. Of course, the EU’s own contempt for democracy has been made clear many times, with its repeated ignoring or overturning of referendum results across Europe.
I am not concerned about Catholic politicians conspiring against the PM. As I understand it, MPs have degrees of freedom on various issues and complete unquestioning loyalty is not a requirement of them. In any case, they must always seek to do the right thing, rather than just exhibit blind loyalty.
I do not think the PM is trying to deliver Brexit, but rather take us into a form of limbo where we are members in all but name. This limbo would then just drag on………likely forever. The “deal” paperwork which the have produced lists our definitive withdrawal date as being the year “20xx”.
I realise the change caused by leaving may be difficult in some ways, but I strongly believe that this would only be temporary, given it is in everyone’s interests to trade and co-operate etc. (Right enough, you can always trust the French to be awkward).

I couldn’t agree more with you – Theresa May is doing her utmost to keep us tied to the EU. For me, the writing was on the well when she refused several times in interviews to say how she would vote in a second referendum. She’s no intention of delivering Brexit properly and she should go asap and be replaced by a leaver, someone who actually wants to get us out of the EU, before we end up having to join their army.

And again, like you, I’m fine with Catholic (and other) politicians “conspiring against the PM” – bring it on! She has proven to be a duplicitous person, who – having voted to remain in the EU – has abused her position to make sure that we are going to be held prisoner within that corrupt project forever. If she gets her way, we’ll be leaving in name only, next March.
Listening to those who want to overturn the referendum, and who bemoan “no deal” as a catastrophe, you’d almost think we had never been an independent country/countries before the disastrous entry into the EU in 1973.
I’ve felt all along that there is no way we would be allowed (by the EU) to leave, and that’s how it is looking. As I’ve said before, this is no “club”, this is a prison. A high security prison. Alcatraz springs to mind; a total of 36 prisoners made 14 escape attempts, two men trying twice; twenty-three were caught, six were shot and killed, two drowned, and five are listed as “missing and presumed drowned”.
Phew! Maybe we should just stay put after all…

I really enjoyed the video of the radio phone-in, with all the top dogs giving their opinion of the deal.
The deal is a disaster and, no, editor, I don’t think Catholic politicians are wrong to call for a vote of no confidence in Theresa May. I think they have a duty to do so, because from what I can gather (although I’ve not read the 585 page document!) we won’t actually be leaving the EU at all but will be still in it, in several ways.
Brussels has been talking about a Europe-wide army for a very long time, and now it’s reared its ugly head again through President Macron, and that is a worry. It will also put Ireland in a quandary because they are always neutral in wars and conflicts. What will happen then, will they leave the EU as well, after doing their best to keep Britain inside it?
The whole thing is a mess but listening to the arguments again on the video, I would vote to leave again, if there is a second referendum.
That’s that done. Yep, read all 585 thrilling pages. Not.😂 Catholics should believe in freedom of religion amongst other freedoms so yes, Catholic politicians should stand up for democracy and the EU certainly IS NOT a democratic institutions!

If I may respectfully correct you on both points. 1. Freedom of religion is a heresy condemned by the Church (pre-Vatican II). 2. There is no such thing as Democracy. This was evident when both holland’s and Ireland’s initial EU referendum results were rejected and new referendums called until the answer was yes. Nicola Sturgeon is trying the same game with Scottish Independence and we have seen how half of the U.S. has refused Donald Trump as President following a so-called democratic election.
It is also worth noting that from the day after our Brexit Referendum a majority of British politicians have pulled every dirty trick in the book to slow down, confuse and frustrate the will of the people. Now having completely sickened the public they intend to sweep in a second referendum with a view to officially overturning the 2016 result. There is no such thing anywhere in the world as democracy, unless it’s Marxist/liberal democracy. The whole freedom to choose thing is a hoax. We are wholly owned by the hidden societies who own the global banks, companies, media and governments, and our destiny, barring divine intervention, is under a one-world, foreign government.
Incidentally, it turns out that Theresa May’s husband works for a global finance company with ties to Google and Amazon. How’s that for impartiality!

It’s perfectly understandable to think that religious liberty or freedom is a good thing, given what we are hearing all the time about living in a pluralistic, tolerant etc society. However, think about it a little more deeply and it soon becomes clear that it really doesn’t make sense.
The following extract is from an article on the SSPX website, where it explains why religious liberty cannot be right…
“Such a conception of religious liberty fails to recognize the social kingship of our Lord Jesus Christ, the supernatural rights of His Church, and the supernatural end of man in the common good of the political order. I seem to recall reading – although I can’t find the quote – that ex-President Gorbachev said he couldn’t understand why the West had spent so long trying to dismantle the USSR, but was now busy rebuilding a similar model (the EU) in its own backyard, or words to that effect. The EU is lurching towards totalitarianism, no question about it.

Although it’s hilarious, because he is acting like any drunk you might see on a Glasgow street, it’s extremely worrying that this man’s Wikipedia entry describes his hugely influential positions of power:-

No Scot could fail to see the comical side of Juncker’s drunken appearances. However, check this out at the UN recently – notice Donald Trump and Theresa May walking by at end, and just ask yourself, if it were Donald Trump who was evidently drunk to the point where he could not stand up without help, wouldn’t it be headline news on every news broadcast? Yet – and I may have missed it, doubt it – I have never seen any mention, let alone a headline about Juncker’s drunken behaviour in public – have you?
What’s the difference between Donald Trump and Jean-Claude Juncker? Why would it matter if the President of the U.S were a known public drunk, (and it would, believe me) but it doesn’t matter that the President of the EU is a known public drunk?

There’s a certain similarity between this Brexit back-pedaling and the establishment response to the election of Donald Trump. Namely, that populism, whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head, must be destroyed. In America, this task has been undertaken by “the Swamp” – i.e. the Democrat Party, the media, certain foundations, and government bureaucrats/operatives. In the UK, it seems the effort is a bit more genteel, but the goal is the same: keep the globalists in power, and keep the people under their diabolical heel.

Unfortunately, I don’t think she’ll lose the premiership just yet because latest reports are that only 24 MPs have put in letters of no confidence. They need 48 to call a vote of no confidence, so it doesn’t look like it will be this week.

To me the EU is on its last legs and it will be left with Germany and France. I personally voted to leave as Many did especially on the Immigration Problem. I do not nor apologise for not wanting a Muslim Country. We are supposed to Have borders yet their are practically none . Our Catholic Bishops again say nothing because of Francis . I’m not sure it’ll be any difference, when even her own cabinet resignations and threats of a vote of no confidence from her own party have left her not bothered in the slightest. She does seem to be someone who believes in ignoring opposition and so far it’s working!
I know somebody above mentioned the nonsense about a european army that these dingbats want to create, but I haven’t seen much notice paid in any of our media over here about Mario Draghi’s speech last Friday. As head of the ECB he was calling for yet more and ever closer monetary and economic union in the EU. Their goal down the line is to achieve fiscal union by controlling the budgets of member states, and then ultimately the european superstate.
The main reason I voted to leave was because I wanted our country to be free of this neomarxist, totalitarian abomination which the eu has become and is in the process of becoming. It isn’t just about leaving what is there now, but leaving what it plans to be in the future.
I don’t care how much economic pain we have to go through. If we can leave our children with a country which is free, independent, makes its own laws and makes its own way in the world, then the pain would be worth it. A no-deal Brexit may now be the only way of achieving this.
As for that ginger lunatic who is always whinging on about independence, what kind of logic would want to see a country vote for its independence only to throw it away again once its got it? Talk about being logically challenged! (OK I can empathize with the resistance to being outnumbered by sassernachs in Westminster, but begging to be gelded by Mrs Merkel seems to bring a new level to the term “cutting one’s nose off to spite one’s face.”)

Many thanks for that excellent post. I’m going to copy it and send it to the Leave Means Leave campaign because I know they are preparing literature for campaigning in the event of a second referendum.
As for your conclusion – this is exactly what I’ve said all along and even a friend of mine who is an ardent member of the SNP has said at meetings, she tells me; that it makes no sense to want to break from Westminster only to take rules from Brussels.
Not exactly – as they used to say a lot but I don’t hear quite so much these days – rocket science!
