Ireland: Papolatrist Priest Under Fire For “Attacking” Pope Francis – At Last!
Below, extracts from Fr Thaddeus Doyle’s January editorial, in The Curate’s Diary.
Some years ago, this priest launched a series of articles attacking Fatima priest, Father Nicholas Gruner, RIP, to which Catholic Truth (and the Fatima Center) responded vigorously. As you will see below, Fr Doyle has now come to the point of feeling the need to criticise Pope Francis. Yet here he attacks Archbishop Vigano for doing precisely the same thing… He is one very mixed-up clergyman. Pray for him.

Thank you from the depths of my heart for your continued loyalty to the Curate’s Diary in these difficult times.
I especially thank those who have continued to promote the Curate’s Diary despite many people objecting to its contents, and sometimes despite being insulted for promoting it.
Our circulation has indeed suffered greatly as a result of my coverage of recent events in the Church. Indeed since I began the series on Pope Francis and the problems in the heart of our Church, our circulation has dropped by 850 and is still dropping. About half of that is as a result of these articles. There has also been a knock-on effect on other aspects of my ministry also, including the loss of speaking engagements.
Why then do I not turn a blind eye to what I perceive as problems in the Church?
…Indeed when problems first began to arise in relation to Pope Francis, I too didn’t want to know. I even tried to block some things out of my consciousness. One such incidence happened while Cardinal Muller was still head of the Congregation for the Doctrine and Faith.
One morning when Cardinal Muller was celebrating Mass, his secretary got a phone call from Pope Francis who insisted on speaking to Cardinal Muller immediately. His secretary explained that Cardinal Muller was celebrating Mass. Pope Francis still insisted that he wanted to speak to him. Immediately! To interrupt the Mass!
Naturally Cardinal Muller wasn’t happy, but his secretary explained that he had already told Pope Francis that he was celebrating Mass, but yet Pope Francis wanted to speak to him. Now!
Had it been me, I would not have left the altar regardless of who was on the phone.
Every morning, if it is possible, I spend 30 minutes before Mass seeking to prepare my mind and heart for the celebration of Mass.
I cannot comprehend any cleric or indeed any person interrupting Mass or any ceremony for a phone-call.
How can one possibly put one’s mind and heart into celebrating the Mass if one is interrupted in the middle of it to answer the phone?
To me to interrupt Mass in this way is grave matter:- grave matter in lack of reverence and respect for the Mass, and also grave matter in this case because it involved the abuse of power.
When I heard what had happened, I was shocked, but I pushed this incident and other troubling incidents out of my mind, and got on with life, supporting Pope Francis and challenging his critics. However eventually things happened which I could not push out of my mind any longer.
I am a firm believer in the teaching of Jesus as we find it in the New Testament.
As years have gone by, my eyes have been opened more and more to the wisdom, truth and beauty of every word that the New Testament records Jesus as having said.
It is for me a real proof that Jesus was truly God. How otherwise could he have come up with such amazing and revolutionary teaching?
Jesus is, as He said, the Way, the Truth and the Life. And as He also said, ³Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.² There is a sense in which a person hasn’t totally met Jesus if he or she isn’t guided by His teaching.
Regardless of the cost, I will stand for the teaching of Jesus. Publicly! Given my own love for Jesus, given my belief that his teaching is the true word of God, staying silent when a leading Church figure speaks or acts in a way that is contrary to the teaching of Jesus, is not an option. [Editor: yet, when the “Lady” of Medjugorje does just that, he has no problem with it.]
Naturally it saddens me when we lose readers. But I am only losing readers – not my life.
Spiritually it is not a bad thing to suffer some small loss for the sake [of] Jesus. It means that one is putting Jesus before self.
There is, however, a sad side to it as well. My life is totally dedicated to leading people to a living relationship with Jesus, and the fewer readers we have, the fewer people I can help in their spiritual journey. I can only trust that one day, Jesus will in some way use my witness for the good His kingdom.
Ironically, but thankfully, one reason so many people have a difficulty with the Pope being criticised is that we have had outstanding popes for so long. [Editor: emphasis added, as I try to keep a straight face].
If people had a better knowledge of Church history, they would not have near as many scruples about a Pope being challenged

The very title of this priest’s site gives a flavour of his “ministry” – which is that of any Protestant preacher. Appeals to “the Spirit”, to building “a relationship with Jesus” along with references to the “Gospel” as distinct from the Church, feature in his writings, which, arguably, lack the Catholic ethos. That aside, however, what are your thoughts about Fr Thaddeus Doyle’s conversion to criticising Pope Francis? Might it lead to greater things? If you have any stories of similar “conversions”, of priests shedding their papolatry to condemn the scandals caused by Pope Francis, let us know.
Importantly, too, consider what moves a priest like Fr Doyle to speak out, albeit better late than never, in the matter of the scandalous words and behaviour of Pope Francis? Is it, thinkest thou, the above sentiment from Our Lady – is it because they come to a realisation that they must put God and His Truth above loyalty to any individual pontiff? If not… what then?

I’ve had enough of you ignoring my requests to stick with the House Rules so your comments will now be moderated and only released if they contribute to our discussion. This is not a forum designed for you to let off steam.
I think it is very much a good thing that this priest’s readership numbers are dropping like a stone. His post on Abp. Vigano is nothing more than an irrational hot-headed rant. The URL of his blog is “JesusPowerMinistries…” – as Editor notes, pure Protestantism, and fundamentalism Protestantism to boot.
And statements like this just make me scratch my head:

So uh, what were your eyes doing in Seminary, Father?
2. (From his attack against Abp. Vigano) “So they [Aldo Maria Valli and Abp. Vigano] deliberately chose the morning of Sunday August 26th. Archbishop Vigano is an archbishop. The others involved in the plot [sic], the National Catholic Register, the LifeSiteNews, the La Verita paper, and InfoVaticana, all claim to be Catholic publications. Had there been even one person with a properly formed conscience amongst them, he would have warned of the collateral damage to the faith in Ireland. In fact each of them sinned against the Irish Church, and against all who were praying and fasting for the success of the visit of Pope Francis.”
A properly formed conscience would be to remain silent in the face of Papal corruption and scandal? Collateral damage to the faith in Ireland, where the apostate episcopate has already sold out to the world, the flesh and the Devil? A successful visit from Pope Francis to promote….homosexual “families”?
3. Why, of all the grievous heresies and scandals perpetrated by Francis, would he single out the interruption of Cdl. Muller’s Mass?
I had to look hard to find something Catholic about this priest. The only thing i could find was that he prepares for Mass: “Every morning, if it is possible, I spend 30 minutes before Mass seeking to prepare my mind and heart for the celebration of Mass.”
I have to wonder how much time he spends preparing his “Curate’s Diary.”
Meanwhile, speaking of Cdl. Muller, I am becoming more and more impressed with him the more he resists Francis’ subversive agenda. In fact, you might say that “my eyes have been opened more and more” to the wisdom and depth of faith he is exhibiting. I’ll post his latest speech below this post.

Perhaps this priest should enunciate why the lady pilgrim from Hong Kong China grabbed [Pope Francis] by the arm over his sell-out of the faithful in China…Or he could ask why we have Luther stamps statues and pagan Pachamama idols in the Vatican no less..

How do you know this lady was from Hong Kong or China? I know she looked oriental but did she actually say something about the Church in that part of the world?

Many thanks for posting that speech of Cardinal Muller – it’s amazingly on the button.
It’s also interesting/ironic that while Fr. Doyle’s devotion to Jesus sounds little different from a devout Protestant, he has decided to start criticizing a Pope whose utterances usually focus on Jesus’ humanity, without mentioning a peep about the Catholic Church.
In other words, Fr. Doyle is using his personal devotion to Jesus as a foundation for criticizing a Pope who also apparently (??) has some devotion to Jesus – instead of criticizing the Pope for his devious attacks against the Church…which Jesus founded…
The Protestants, especially their fundamentalist wing, like to say “All you need is Jesus” (implicit in fine print: you don’t need the Catholic Church). I think Fr. Doyle appears to be quite comfortable with that mentality. In fact, so does his earthly boss….

Your posts have pinned down the modus operandi of this priest – as with the Protestants – which is to see Jesus as the object of everything with the Church something that is a human invention and so we can dispense with it as long as we have a good relationship; with Jesus. It doesn’t make any sense when you remember that it was Jesus who gave us the Church in the first place, LOL! It was Jesus who gave the keys to Peter and say “he that hears you hears me” So he doesn’t see himself as at odds with his Church.
I vaguely remember the stuff in the newsletter about Fr Doyle, years ago. I wonder if he still thinks the Consecration of Russia has been done. He probably does.

I was removed from the Church at age 5 (due to divorce) and raised Protestant, so I’m familiar with some of the Protestant world, though not the full spectrum of it’s emptiness. I also lived in the “Bible Belt” for nine years, amongst the full-metal jacket Protestant fundamentalists, who talk of nothing but Jesus and act as though He is sitting on their shoulder or in their shirt pocket, approving of everything they say and do, especially including condemning to Hell everyone who disagrees with them.
As a commentary on the Novus Ordo, aka the Trojan Horse in the City of God, the first time I attended one I was quite relieved that it wasn’t all that different from the typical Protestant service, and that I actually could “relate” to what was going on. Maybe it was all that “active participation” that reassured me….
Not knowing anything about the Vatican II revolution, and having no memory of the real Mass from my childhood, this experience made me think it wouldn’t be so hard after all to return to the Church.
Speaking of fundamentalists, I wonder if Fr. Doyle thinks he has been “saved” because he has “accepted Jesus and his Lord and Master”?
Victor I am in noway defending or in this case condemning anyone. I met Fr Doyle once about 15 years ago and found him a very devout Catholic Priest. Of course I know that lots can happen in 24 Hours never mind 15 years that can change not only a person but the World. The Man whom I met was to me a Holy and Good Priest and most certainly devoted to his Vows .

Judging from his remarks, I’d say his devotion to his vows may have been what caused him to wake up about Francis. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the way he expresses those vows makes him sound like a Protestant evangelical, and not like a Catholic.

The whole charismatic ethos permeates the diocesan churches – I keep encountering it in people, even in priests, who will speak of spending time with “the Lord” (not Our Lord) and referring to “the Spirit” (not the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost) in their lives and so on. They have been well and truly protestantised, and don’t even recognise it in themselves. Very sad. Some of them, however, display a love for Our Lady so that will be a saving grace for them, no doubt.

I have trouble thinking of charismatics having an “ethos.” As far as I can tell, what they have is crackpot hyper-emotional instability.
But, I hope devotion to Our Lady does increase among their numbers.

I’ve noticed that, as well, talking about “the Lord” “the Spirit” and using the holy name of Jesus most of the time, with never a bowing of the head. It’s so NOT Catholic.
Ed I know many many Good and Faithful Catholics who are involved in Charismatic renewal who wish only goodness and kindness through Our Lord in this World and hopefully the next . They most certainly showed not by Faith Alone but by helping others through Faith both Spiritually and Materially that they were not Hypocrites. As Jesus said when one of his Disciples of the 72 came back . ” Lord we Have also heard of people casting out Devils in your name ” of course we all know Christs Words .” Whoever is with me is not against me ” . Sometimes Ed we have to cut others a little slack . None of us are Saints.

“Good and faithful Catholics” cannot be part of the charismatic renewal (and what are they renewing, anyway?), which is delusional Protestant nonsense. They may indeed be, and probably are, as you say, good and decent human beings, but good and faithful Catholics? Sorry, does not compute.
That would be akin to claiming that many good and faithful Catholics participate in ecumenical services with members of other religions – an activity which is forbidden by the Church. Ipso facto, they are no longer good and faithful Catholics.
From Paul VI to Pope Francis, they have not ceased to distort the pontifical function.
