I tried giving up chocolate for Lent a few years ago and broke it twice.

If you’d just chosen the Feasts in Lent (St Patrick St Joseph, Annunciation), that wouldn’t be breaking Lent. We’re allowed wee breaks in penances to mark great Feasts.
In fact, I once heard a story about a Bishop visiting a convent of nuns, and he brought them a large tub of ice-cream. Immediately the Prioress frowned slightly and reminded him that it was Lent… to which the Bishop replied “But, Mother, we need these little breaks in Lent!”

IIRC, I broke it twice at work, which disqualifies the Feast of the Annunciation since I always took the day off.
Also, on the Byzantine & Ukrainian Greek Catholic calendar, Mar. 17th is the Feast of St. Alexis, the Man of God and Our Holy Father Patrick, Enlightener (i.e. Baptizer) of Ireland. Baptism is also called the Sacrament/Mystery of Enlightenment because it fills the soul with the Light and Life of God. The term “Enlightenment” was expropriated by Protestant historians to describe the 17th & 18th centuries. We need to reclaim the proper use of the term.
Since St. Patrick brought the Faith to Ireland, he is therefore the Enlightener of Ireland.
Finally, we have the Feast of St. Joseph (as well as King David and St. James) is the Sunday after the Nativity of Our Lord. So we have to wait 9 months to celebrate his feast (provided this crisis ends).
LOL! That’s like me – seems like Lent lasts a year!

I once read that on the Feast of the Assumption (15 August), numberless souls are released into heaven from purgatory.

Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised – Our Lady has such power in Heaven and does attend to the Holy Souls, according to the book I’m reading on Purgatory right now, so that makes sense.

A dear American friend of Italian extraction always got a phone call from ifs Momma on Ash Wednesday reminding him Lent was on its way.
She always asked “What are you giving up for Lent”
One year he replied “Pasta”

Just a reminder to make the Consecration to Our Lady tomorrow on the Feast of the Annunciation, 25th March. As you know, [Pope] John Paul II, dedicated the feast day of the Annunciation as the International Day of the Unborn Child, so it is an even more special day for us, who continue to fight to the end for the rights of the unborn – that they simply to be allowed to live.
There is a very short consecration prayer I like :
‘I choose you today, Mary, in the presence of the angels and the saints of Heaven for my Mother and my Queen. I consecrate to you
in obedience and love, all I am, all I have and all the good I may do, putting myself and all that belongs to me entirely at your
service, for the greater glory of God in time and in eternity. Amen.’ Louis Marie de Montfort
And on Sunday 29th March, we rededicate our country to Our Lady. All details of this are on the Walsingham website.

Today is the day when the Requiem Mass for pro-life hero Ted Atkinson’ was scheduled to take place in his parish church, the Mass offered by a priest of the SSPX.
However, due to the current restrictions, there will only be a funeral service led by an SSPX priest, with Father Brucciani, District Superior, offering Mass at the same time. Deo gratias.

One of my brothers sent me a comical clip earlier but it’s not on YouTube (or if it is, I can’t find it) – it is very funny. Here’s the story…
There are a range of groceries laid out on a table, with a man’s voice saying he had gone to Sainsbury’s but had to go outside and ask some shoppers if they would give him some food, since the shelves are empty. They say, “sure, no problem” (words to that effect) and then he starts pointing out that he managed to get some bread, some beans, etc Amazing… Points to the various items… with a gun! Hilarious!

Our Blessed Lady and St Joseph please make this the day that the tide turns for us in regards to the coronavirus. So many babies are lost by abortion so please let us hold our lovely grandaughter, our gift from God and you Our Blessed Mother, in our arms soon again. To watch her only through facetime is heartbreaking. (wiping tears from my eyes now).

So true about the abortion clinics remaining open – at Wendy’s prompting I emailed the UK Prime Minister and Health Secretary to point out this anomaly, that while other businesses are being instructed to close down, these murderous places are being allowed to continue their evil work. I posted it on the Coronavirus Political etc thread.

I had a call earlier from a reader who passed on the news that the Lady of Medjugorje has said in her latest message today that if everyone prays three Our Fathers today at 3pm, that will (more or less) be the end of the Coronavirus.
As our reader pointed out, this clashes somewhat with the Pope’s request to pray with him around 6pm (I’m only passing on the message, not checked it all out).
Interesting times, folks. Interesting times…

If the Pope encouraged a Rosary Crusade and consecrated Russia to Our Lady`s Immaculate Heart
I firmly believe an end would come soon.
What power he has and yet won`t use it.
It only takes ten seconds to say a quiet Hail Mary. Fifty people in a Church could say the full rosary in ten seconds.
The priest could always chip in with the Our Fathers and Glory Be`s.
The Pope ***in union with all the bishops of the world*** must consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. No pope from Pius XI to the present has done it exactly as Our Lady said.
Today 25 March is 36 years since PJPII consecrated the world – NOT Russia! – to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Nor did all the bishops participate.
Pius XII consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary BUT WITHOUT ALL the bishops.
