19/6: Happy Feast of the Sacred Heart!
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus…
n 1673, a French Visitandine (Visitation) nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque had a private revelation of Jesus, in which he asked the Church to honour his Most Sacred Heart.
In particular, Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary 12 specific promises made to all who venerated and promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary, “Behold the Heart which has so loved men that it has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to testify Its love … I promise you that My Heart shall expand Itself to shed in abundance the influence of Its Divine Love upon those who shall thus honour It, and cause It to be honoured.”
The entire purpose of this devotion is to draw a person closer to the heart of Christ. If a person spreads devotion to the Sacred Heart, it is natural for him or her to be closer to God. The moment that this devotion is observed in a superstitious manner, neglecting the need to live a virtuous life, all bets are off and Jesus’ promises are null and void.
Jesus wants us to rest on his heart, like St. John, and the Sacred Heart devotion is an opportunity for us to encounter him more than just on Sundays and to deepen our love of him.
The 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart Devotion
I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
I will establish peace in their homes.
I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
Sinners will find in my heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
I will bless every place in which an image of my heart is exposed and honoured.
I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart.
I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment. Source

In the past, we’ve discussed the 12 Promises of Our Lord to all who venerate and promote devotion to His Sacred Heart. We’ve compared “favourites”, so to speak. I’ve probably quoted a very close friend of mine who told me that it was only when she read the above promises and undertook to spread this devotion in her own home, and wherever possible outside, that she experienced a change in herself which she attributes to Christ’s promise that lukewarm souls shall become fervent. She certainly became fervent: she changed from being a lukewarm Sunday Catholic to being devoted to the Faith and fervent in many areas of Catholic life – not least in her active support for Catholic Truth.
So, share your thoughts about the 12 Promises, as well as posting your favourite prayers and hymns – all to honour the Sacred Heart of Jesus on this lovely Feast. A very happy Feast day to one and all !

It still the practice in (once) Catholic rural Ireland to display the picture of the sacred heart with a permanently burning lamp below it.
A lovely tradition which is still not extinguished.

It’s actually a sad truth that nothing about Pope Francis is out of place on any devotional thread because the news is always bad and very sad, unfortunately. It underlines, therefore, the need to pray for him.
We might place this wayward (to say the least) pontiff under the special care of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on this hugely important Feast day.

I know that a Pope can be deposed for heresy, among other things, if we could get enough cardinals who are not also Marxists, but could a Pope be deposed on the grounds of insanity? Because in my ‘umble opinion this incumbent is paranoid, and certainly not Catholic.

I would be content to have the first promise – all the graces necessary for my state of life. That’s a lot!
Most people seem to go for the last promise, though, the first nine Fridays, and that is understandable. I have made the nine Fridays, but I always feel I need to make them again and again. I can’t explain it except that I never feel I’ve made them with sufficient devotion. I’d be interested to know if others have experienced this.

Yes, I’m like that – I must have made the nine First Fridays more times than I have fingers on my hands, but I want to make them again! I’m not a naturally scrupulous person so I think I really should make them again. My attention span is not great so I get distracted easily. I hope if I’m called before I get the chance to complete them again, God will “count me in” and make sure I have the Last Sacraments – I’m sure He will, in His infinite mercy.
Happy Feast to one and all. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is one of the principle Feasts of the year and a great day to have the Sacred Heart enthroned in the home by a priest. Not much chance of anyone being able to do that this year due to the fake pandemic but definitely worth thinking about for those who haven’t yet had the Sacred Heart enthroned, once this lockdown nonsense has passed.

You haven’t heard of the 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart which places you in the younger category of Catholics. Priests used to speak about them, whether in the pulpit (e.g. when developing the Gospel teaching on the great mercy of God) or privately, when visiting homes.
I remember asking the priest who brought my mother RIP Holy Communion every month, if he’d chosen a Friday because of the First Friday devotion – I explained I hadn’t always noticed the day, did he always come on a Friday? To which he replied “No…. I just come when I take it up my humpf” – no further comment from me !

I have also made the Nine First Friday’s too. Like Lily I too would have the First Promise – I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. But, in the times we are living through I would gladly love to have the opportunity to attend Church in order to make those Nine First Fridays.

Saint Margaret Mary had written to Mother de Sumaise describing the Request of Our Lord Jesus Christ, addressed to King Louis XIV, (at least I think it was the XIV), the Consecration of France to His Sacred Heart.

It is sad to consider the failure of the Consecration of France to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1689, and, the failure of Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary which she requested in 1929 which has still to be done. And ignored even. Certainly the King Louis in 1789 attempted the Consecration but too little too late.

Happy feast day! For those unable to go to confession due to the Covid hysteria, if one has not already done so already today, then make an act of contrition. I do not believe that on this great festival of the Sacred Heart, fountain of mercy, God will withold from us the grace of perfect contrition and forgiveness of all our sins (assuming of course we go to sacramental confession at the first possible opportunity).

I’ve re-opened this thread now, having received the following news.
A priest has contacted a few people with the news that the Bishop of Paisley, John Keenan, was preaching on the subject of devotion to the Sacred Heart when – believe it or not – the statue of the Sacred Heart behind him, crashed to the floor.
I received the video clip showing this in an email but it is an Mp4 file, so I’ve not been able to copy it – otherwise I’ve have posted it as a separate thread. Along with the video, the priest wrote the following:
“But the frightening thing is that on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a senior shepherd who is depriving the sheep of the Sacraments, the primary means of Salvation of our Souls, chooses to talk about having a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and 2/3 seconds after he says such, the Image of the Sacred Heart in the Bishop’s presence, collapses and falls from its stand. FRIGHTENING ! “
Just before the statue fell, the Bishop had said “It’s about Jesus’ devotion to us…” (perhaps – as usual – turning the Faith upside down, although we’d need to hear the full context of what he was planning to say before being sure of that!)

That is extremely scary but I’m afraid our bishops are supernaturally as blind as bats, servants of cultural Marxism in this present Covid-19 fakery. Tragically, they won’t take the hint. If they were capable of seeing then they would have seen the devastation of Vatican II reform decades ago.

I am not claiming that the Hand of God was the direct cause of the statue falling, but regardless, it should be taken as a salutary warning.
Sacred Scripture reveals to us that God will not be mocked.

They’re very good at “talking the talk”, as the saying goes, so this is God’s way of telling them to “walk the walk.”
No question about it in my mind. What’s the point of pious sermons about devotions, when you are deliberately refusing to administer the Sacraments. Makes no sense. It’s, literally, a nonsense.
And this after receiving Martin’s letter giving them the hard facts about the total LACK of any need for this lockdown. Unconscionable men.
Bishop Keenan should be thankful that God is NOT a woman, or that statue would have been aimed at his head!
I know that last sentence is very naughty and totally NON-theological but it’s late and I’m tired and I’m especially tired of the faithless Scottish Bishops. And it’s not just the Bishops who make me sick and tired…

I would have thought it was providential, rather than miraculous. But who knows?
That’s priceless! I doubt if the Bishop will see the irony, though – he’s very far gone, partly because he was brought up in the Vatican II Church, has never known anything else. The rest of the bishops can’t say that, though.

I know Bishop Keenan personally, and I first met him over a decade ago, and I can attest that he is thoroughly entrenched in the conciliar orientation, both doctrinally, and in terms of liturgical praxis. He is given a free pass by Scottish neo-Conservative Catholics, since he himself is a neo-Conservative Catholic, and is praised for his fidelity to Catholic moral teaching, particularly the anthropological issues, i.e. sexuality etc..
As Catholic chaplain to the University of Glasgow, Turnbull Hall, he did not permit the Traditional Mass to be offered there, even though several students there had requested it, including myself.
As reported on this blog, and in the Catholic Truth newsletter, Father Keenan, as chaplain, erected a shrine to John Paul II in the chapel of Turnbull Hall. This was an irregular shrine, because at the time, John Paul was only a beatus, and therefore public veneration of John Paul II had not been approved for the Church universally.
If this little shrine didn’t constitute public veneration, then I don’t know what does… The statue was placed upon a cloth appliquéd with the pontiff’s armorial, itself upon a decorative plinth, before which stood a votive candle stand. The Bishop’s intense admiration and veneration of John Paul II is well-known. This is problematic for Traditional Catholics.

There is an “upload video” option on FB, so I first saved it to my computer from the email message, then uploaded it.
In short: you put your right click in, you take your right click out, you do the hokey-pokey ’til your cursor finds the route….
