England: Cardinal Nichols Bows To State Control Again – Churches Closed…
LONDON, November 5, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – As another lockdown is implemented across England, banning public worship and only allowing private prayer in churches, Cardinal Vincent Nichols has issued a letter urging Catholics to be obedient to the restrictions.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW) had previously issued a letter some days ago, demanding that the government provide the evidence for justifying closing churches for public worship.
A number of bishops also penned their own letters to MPs and government ministers, requesting evidence for the ban on Mass and warning of causing discord. Perhaps surprisingly, many MPs also raised the matter in Parliament, warning of the precedent set by such an attack on religious liberty, without any evidence presented to justify the measures.
After the new law was approved in parliament, Cardinal Nichols of the Archdiocese of Westminster issued a second letter, urging Catholics to obey the new measures.
“Despite profound misgivings, it is important that we, as responsible citizens, observe these Regulations, which have the force of law,” he said.
Nichols then cited Scripture in his argument, seeking to point out the virtue of obedience to the law: “Remind them to be obedient to the officials in authority; to be ready to do good at every opportunity. (Titus 3:1).” Click here to read entire report…
Comment:
That there is absolutely no need to close churches has been confirmed by Dumb & Dumber themselves – here’s what they have said on the matter, as reported in the above Lifesitenews report: One day before Cardinal Nichols released his second letter, Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance, the U.K.’s chief medical officer and chief scientific adviser, testified before a parliamentary committee that there were no scientific grounds for closing churches.
Both Whitty and Vallance are members of the Scientific Advisory Group in Emergencies (SAGE), which has provided the basis for much of the U.K government’s policies in dealing with COVID-19.
Vallance stated, “We haven’t got good evidence on the exact value of each intervention on ‘R’. We produced a paper suggesting what that might be in different areas, but really said, ‘Look, this is not an exact science at all.’ And therefore I’m afraid it’s a rather blunt instrument.”
Questioned further about rates of transmission in churches specifically, Vallance added, “I don’t think we have good data to answer that with any degree of certainty.”
Whitty sought to defend their decision by suggesting that people might “congregate outside and do things which do lead to transmission,” but added that this was “anecdotal” and not “scientific fact.” Ends.
“No scientific grounds for closing churches” – so why are they being closed?

Shutting down the churches a second time shows that the Cardinal just doesn’t want them open. It’s not about the virus, as we all know anyway. It’s not important to him to have the churches open, that’s all there is to it. The scientists have said there is no scientific reason to close them, so that proves that there is something else going on here. I just wish I could work out what it is!

I’d suggest that shutting the churches would reduce church attendance. I’d also ask a simple question, “Are we there yet?”

Antoine Bisset,
Good reminder. I’d say we are there, with one exception: we don’t have Bill Gates’ population control vaccines coursing through our bodies yet.
It’s all here folks: https://samisdat.info/media/the-new-order-of-the-barbarians-lawrence-dunegan-1991/LawrenceDunegan1969.pdf
A wise decision by The Protestant Nichols it will give him more time to Concentrate on his
LGBTQ2WXYZ. friends. That’s a nice Halloween Photo. My God and this Man and His Cohorts have actually the Cheek to say that their Catholics. I wonder if Nichols will ask His Servants to stay away from His Mansion and let HIM fend for Himself. Naw that’s a stupid question.
Faith of Our Fathers,
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve not heard a peep from the Alphabet Soup crowd – i.e. the Soho Mass attendees – protesting or expressing their concerns about not being able to hook up in churches.
I suppose they’ve found other venues in which to… er, “socialize.”
Yes Victor your spot on about the Soup Mob and their New Venues in Fact am sure some of Our Politicians Have Given Them Special Dispensations
Of course that could just be a Rumour. You know Like The Rotten To The Core BBC saying that Voter Fraud in The American Election is Highly Unlikely. Notice they didn’t say unlikely but Highly Unlikely. Of course the ones overhere who believe that the BBC are an upright organisation will Lap that up . God Bless You.
I have one question for Cardinal Nichols’ flock (??) in the U.K.:
Would you buy a used car from this man?
RCA Victor,
Well, he does have the T shirt…

I wonder does the Cardinal know that abortaries, off licences, supermarkets are all open? Surely he can work out that “infection” is far more likely to spread in a crowded supermarket than in an almost empty church?
My husband said to me last night: “why don’t the clergy simply defy the government and refuse to shut churches? What can they do about it? Lock us all up??”
Helen don’t put ideas 💡 into already warped Minds . Remember that in Northern Ireland ☘️ they Interred 100s of Young Catholic Men without charge or without crime in the late 60s . Of course that was all legal and above board. Question .? Do you think IF that happened that the Guy above in The Halloween Outfit would even speak out .
Helen
I think you and your husband are asking the question assuming that these are men of faith. They are not men of faith, they went to work for a new employer some time ago – he’s called “the prince of this world”!
What we are confronted with today is a Church whose hierarchy, and no few priests, have lost the supernatural Catholic Faith. Priesthood is a job now for many of them, a good wee social work number. For the really ambitious it’s a great ladder to high ecclesiastical office and an easy life at the top. There’s hardly one amongst the Cardinals and bishops now who actually lives the life of Our Lord or has His spirit. Tragic but true. The citadel was betrayed at Vatican II and Catholic souls have been ravaged by revolutionaries in cope and mitre ever since.
Next time you hear a prelate agree with lockdowns and all those other Covid directives from Beijing, recall the lament of Paul VI “the smoke of Satan has entered the Church” and it will all make perfect sense. The hierarchy is now so rotten that only Our Lord can cleanse it by divine intervention, which is surely not far off. In the meantime, by their fruits we know them!
This will happen again in Scotland, too. Sturgeon will soon announce a second full lockdown or add closure of churches to one of her ridiculous tiers. The clergy here won’t put up a fight this time, either. It’s disgusting.
Lily,
You’ve been reading The Herald, haven’t you?

I must confess that during the last Lockdown I never supported my Local Parish financially but I have caught up with some of my donations in the last few weeks. As far as am concerned our Parish Priest is a Faithful Man which to me is seconded by the fact that many in my Parish don’t like him . I personally have had an argument with a couple who say they don’t like him, and have said he’s there to do a Job and be a Faithful Priest as it’s not a popularity contest. I most certainly will not desert my Catholic Faith if there is another Church Closure. But I will be asking my Priest questions if our Catholic Churches are closed and other amenities kept open . As am sure lots on here will also be doing.
FOOF,
I have no problem with discounting your priest’s personality – that’s no reason to dislike him or withhold money from the parish. Believe ir or not (and the recommended answer is “not”) people don’t like my personality. I know, I know, beggars belief…
However, I’m surprised you saw any need to “catch up” with donations after lockdown… You were denied access to the church and to Mass – why on earth you would feel obliged to donate a penny, is beyond little ole me. You’re obviously very kind-hearted – either that or you’ve more money than sense…

Our so called leaders fail us again – what a surprise, not!
In many cases normally, I would struggle to even guess how Bishops fill their time, but they are obviously enjoying the Churches being shut. More time in front of the TV it would seem.
Recently we discussed Ordinariate Priest Fr David Palmer, who said he would rather go to jail than deny people the sacraments for a second time.
His plan had been to say his “private mass” (wink, wink) at a side altar, at the same time as people were in the Church for their own private prayers.
The authorities had not reacted to this, yet it was his own Bishop (Patrick McKinney) who put the kibosh on the plan.
And so there is an absurd situation in that the Church is open for private prayer, but the priest is not allowed to conduct private prayers.
The biggest hypocrite in all of this is, of course, Francis (who else?). So much for his “the Church is a field hospital” baloney. In reality, the mainstream Church has abandoned people in their time of need, closing its doors with indecent haste. Some field hospital.
A priest in England is facing a large fine after 200 travellers attended a wedding at his parish (they told him only 15 people would come).

Would you be good enough to email me when you have a minute, I have a favour to ask in private. I thought I knew your email address but the two I have seem to be old ones.
No rush – I’ll check my email for your response in about 30 seconds!!
Athanasius,
Sorry for the delay, just now saw your post. Have sent an email, more to follow later in the day! (Further out than 30 seconds, I’m afraid!) 🙂
RCAVictor
Many thanks, I received your email message. No worries about the 30 seconds, I’m open to doubling that wait time!!

Once upon a time prelates stayed in office until serious illness or death decided otherwise. Now they retire at 75 because it’s not a vocation to serve God any more, it’s just a job like any other. Yet another sign that these men have no supernatural faith.
Athanasius,
I think the serious illness these days is between their ears….
RCAVictor
More like a sickness of the soul!

Was the release of this resignation yesterday timed to overshadow this damaging news? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8933575/Englands-leading-Catholic-Cardinal-Vincent-Nichols-criticised-abuse-inquiry.html
Westminsterfly,
I think you’re definitely on to something! This comes right on the heels of the release of the long-awaited McCarrick report, which, according to one of the EWTN talking heads, is a “whitewash” blaming JPII and Abp. Vigano.
I didn’t know ++NIchols was under investigation, actually. Deo gratias.
RCA Victor,
From what I’m learning on all sides, just about every bishop in Scotland, if not the entire UK should be under investigation for their blatant double-living. In due course, be assured, all will be revealed.
As Catholic Truth reported quite some time ago now, it’s getting to the point where it would be easier to find Lord Lucan than a priest in the Archdiocese of Glasgow – they have been disappearing like the fear of spreading the virus at a Biden event. You’ll have noticed the way they rub shoulders as they crack open their premature bottles of champagne. And while Biden is, at one moment, calling on all Americans to wear a mask for a few months, it will make all the difference – on the other hand, literally, we see this…

Editor,
Don’t know if you’ve come across the Biden COVID-19 response agenda, which for some reason seems to be a central plank in his platform, but it is virtually identical to what you all are being subjected to in the U.K.
Further proof that the scam-demic and response is being controlled from centralized points. And those points aren’t too interested in the “old normal.”
RCA Victor,
I saw an interview yesterday with Dr Margaret Harris of the World Health Organisation. She had a fixed grin on her face throughout until she was asked (by the Mickey Mouse interviewer on Sky News) if, in the context of a vaccine by next Spring, we would be able to return to the “normal” at that time. For the first time she stumbled a little after all her smooth talking and replied (words to the effect) that we wanted to build the world better and it would be good if we could stop talking about returning to “the old normal”.
For those who remain defiantly sceptical out there, she said it – there IS a conspiracy, it’s just not theoretical any more…
Editor,
That fixed grin is what we conspiracy theorists used to call “the insider’s smirk.”
I wonder if Dr. Harris will be among those first in line to get one of Bill Gates’ lethal vaccines? Then she can describe her own “new normal” as having spinal cord damage, brain damage, paralysis, immune system collapse, leukemia….
What a better world it will be!
Yes, so I hear. Thanks for stopping by – Editor…
WF,
That was a very difficult report to read – heart-breaking to know that so many people across the UK will be reading that the Church is not a safe place for children.
This comment, however, best sums up the lack of understanding of those doing the assessing and reporting, about the true nature of the problem: examining it in merely academic terms, as they do, we read…
The report later adds: ‘While there have undoubtedly been improvements in the Church’s response to child sexual abuse, based on the evidence we heard, Church leaders need to do more to encourage and embed a culture of safeguarding throughout the entire Catholic Church in England and Wales.’
A “culture of safeguarding” is essentially irrelevant. These men have no Catholic Faith – indeed, some of them may have gone forward to ordination in order to have easy access to either homosexual men or children, or both. In my considered opinion they should be removed from active ministry, like a thieving bank teller would be debarred from employment in the finance sector.
WF & Editor
As soon as I got to the part citing cases reported between 1970 and 2015, I stopped reading. There are three reasons for this: 1. We all remember the Cardinal Pell stitch up with historical cases. 2. Justice forbids consideration of cases beyond a certain point in time – called the statute of limitations. It existed always to protect innocent people from being convicted of crimes they did not commit. 3. there can never be truth or justice in the case of clerical sexual abuse because the lure of “compensation” makes it not only possible but probable that accusations are driven more by greed than reality.
I will just throw in one final one that does my head in, that word they keep using “survivors”. A survivor is someone who escapes almost certain death, such as a concentration camp victim. It does not apply in any way to victims of crime, however heinous, whose life was never in danger. The word, though, does tend to inflame passions against Catholic clergy, guilty or not.
Athanasius,
I looked at the timeline very differently, seeing 1970 as the year after the introduction of the new Mass. There has been unquestionably a withdrawal of grace in the Church, which is why we are seeing the huge rise in the infestation of sexual sins of every kind and even criminal activity by priests. Our Lady of Good Success said something about this, there being dreadful sins committed both in public and private – and that was prophesied over 400 years ago. .
I do agree that if someone is deceased, there is no need, and in fact it is quite wrong, to blacken a priest’s name. There is no question, however, and it gives me no pleasure to say this, this criminal activity against children cannot be denied. There is one such case in Glasgow pending.
I agree with editor’s point about the talk of safeguarding etc is to gloss over the real case of the problem which is that these abusing priests are not men of God. That is what needs to be put right IMHO and if it is not possible then they should not be allowed anywhere near children. Put them to work in the diocesan offices but not in a parish, school or hospital.
I also think Cardinal Nichols should go now. He’s already done a lot of harm to the Church in E & W so time to go – this report would be a good excuse, he could say he wants to give someone new a chance to cleanse the diocese.
Michaela
Conversely, the loss of faith in the Church since the changes in 1970 may have resulted in many lapsed Catholics seeing a quick buck in sexual assault allegations that cannot now be proven one way or the other, some 50 years down the line. It’s difficult to know what’s true and false these days given the cash for testimony atmosphere around sexual abuse cases.
We have to remember also that while there’s no doubt that clerical abuse of children has gone on to some extent, especially when the faith started to fade in the post-conciliar Church, a lot of the stories that have been generated against the Church by her enemies are clearly false. Hence my reluctance to jump on the condemnatory bandwagon, even if it is a rank Modernist who is being accused.
I have always operated by facts, by what has been proven beyond doubt. Thus far I have seen many reports and heard many accusations by investigative boards and the media, yet not the facts I need in order to be convinced. As far as I’m concerned, unless there is a definite smoking gun with correlated evidence that does not involve financial compensation for the accusers, then I try to stay neutral and leave the matter in God’s hands. Even if a priest abuser escapes justice in this life, he most certainly will not escape divine justice in the next. People without faith don’t realise this, which is why they often seek more vengeance than justice in this world.
Having said all this, I agree with you that priests who abuse children are not men of God and that those known to have abused children should never be allowed anywhere near a child again. There should be a strict monastery somewhere remote where they could be sent for the remainder of their lives to do penance.
Michaela,
Because of my position in my parish (having contact with youth in our choir), I am required to enroll in the USCCB “Virtus” safeguarding program, which was created after the first round of sex-abuse cases hit the news, early in the century.
Then-Cardinal McCarrick, btw, was instrumental in putting this program in place!
But I digress. Even though it was priests and bishops who committed the abuse, it is the laity, not the offending clergy, who are required to take this “Safe Environment” class! What are the clergy required to do as a result of their crimes? Well, just adapt to life in a new parish in most cases, and identify new targets for their perversions.
But the Virtus course itself is a farce. It purports to equip laity with certain awareness tools so that they are more likely to be able to identify abuses cases. Yet neither the words “priest” or “bishop” are ever mentioned – and of course, neither is the word “homosexual,” and especially not the proclivity of homosexuals to abuse young male teens.
That would be putting the heat a little too close to home, dontcha know…
A & E & WF, (!!)
Here’s an interesting “coincidence”: remember the Attorney General of Pennsylvania who started the new and explosive round of priestly sex-abuse cases/bishop cover-ups a couple of years ago? Josh Shapiro is his name.
Well, guess who is neck-deep in fraudulent vote-counting in Pennsylvania!
RCA Victor,
I WAS going to say “let me guess”… But this is funnier…
