Lord Sumption: Only Permanent Lockdown Will Work (That’s The Plan)…
Former Supreme Court judge Lord Jonathan Sumption has criticised the government’s approach to the coronavirus pandemic, saying it has employed fear as a means to justify its actions. Speaking with talkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer, he warned that Downing Street could hold on to its emergency powers after there is no need for them: “The problem is that fear is the main pillar of every authoritarian government. Fear has been skilfully and I fear deliberately employed throughout this crisis.” (From the Introduction to the above video on talkRadio’s YouTube Platform).

Comment:
I really can’t improve on some of the comments posted over at YouTube, underneath the above video… Which of the following points do you find most compelling?
Banned from, going out, protesting, freedom of speech, seeing family, living our lives…. This is Tyranny…
The cases are fake and so are the polls. Absolutely treasonous government. Covid 1984. Dystopian future becoming a dystopian present
The soldiers of the past must be spinning in their graves at how easily the British public have rolled over and surrendered their hard-fought freedom, we’re a disgrace to these brave men and women.
Lockdown Boris and co in prison. No to forced tests and vaccines.
When you takeaway people’s jobs and you leave them with no money to pay their bills and feed their children and then they lose their homes trust me COVID-19 will be the least of your worries.
“Tyranny” strikes me as being a compelling summary of what is going on, but then so does “Dystopia” – what we are experiencing is the very opposite of “Utopia”, that’s for sure; the commentator who makes the point about the British solders also resonates – I’ve even seen Government ministers having the sheer nerve to wear a poppy this month despite betraying everything that it is meant to represent.
Share your own thoughts about the interview. Especially say (1) whether or not you agree with Lord Sumption’s answer to that key question: will we ever get our freedoms back? And (2) answer this question: where is the religious equivalent of Lord Sumption? Obviously, and scandalously, Pope Francis is never going to fight for our personal and religious freedoms but is there no bishop anywhere in the UK who shares Lord Sumption’s concerns? If not, we need to explore why not… again!

I know this video has been posted in several places on this blog already, but we can never get too much of a good thing so it’s perhaps time to remind ourselves that there will be legal consequences – including imprisonment – for all those who have perpetrated this “Crime Against Humanity”…
I was spoilt for choice to pick one of those comments on the list but I decided on this one, because it does sum up what is going on IMHO:-
Banned from, going out, protesting, freedom of speech, seeing family, living our lives…. This is Tyranny…
Lord Sumption is so right – the government has used fear to well that if they issued a decree that we all need to go into the street and stand on our heads for three minutes every day, to make sure if the virus got into our hair that it would go away, the majority of the idiots would do it, especially there was a £10,000 fine attached to disobeying it, LOL!
Fidelis,
I agree – Lord Sumption is completely right in his analysis.
I’d be interested to know your thoughts on the second question – where is the “religious” equivalent of Lord Sumption?
Well here are my thoughts on a “religious” equivalent of Lord Sumption. I was going to say “there ain’t any” when I remembered Fr. Dunn. He has certaily spoken out in a very courageous manner. Perhaps he should seek an interview with Julia? TalkTalk Radio might be very interested in what “a (religious) voice crying in the wilderness” has to say. Very interested indeed.
Crofterlady,
I didn’t read the question that way, because priests don’t have any authority except over their own congregations, so although it would be great to hear Fr Dunn on the radio, it’s not the same as one of the bishops.
My answer to the question is that there isn’t a single bishop in either Scotland or England who would have the courage to speak out as Lord Sumption did and that is partly because they have all fallen for the propaganda messages! You won’t any of them preaching against the government messages about staying safe, stopping the spread blah blah.
Well yes, Laura, I agree that it’s not the same as one of the bishops, but, Fr. Dunn has as much religious authority, if not more, than a retired judge!
I’m glad Lord Sumption has a lot of gumption! Interesting that the subject of polls should come up in the interview: polls are easily manipulated and falsified to provide the results desired, so when the government or the BBC cites polls in support of lockdowns, all they are doing is repeating their own lies with a pseudo-scientific veneer.
I also suspect that the populace is so susceptible to fear, ultimately, because the vast majority of the populace has abandoned God and the pursuit of our supernatural end. The mice can only see and smell the cheese, not the Divine Hand that gives it to them, so when the tyrannical government moves the cheese, the result is confusion and fear.
There is a famous book called “Who Moved My Cheese?” which claims to advise readers how to deal with change, but I seriously doubt any of that advice has to do with our eternal destiny….
RCA Victor,
Love that cheese analogy.
I agree totally that the irrational fear of this virus is due to lack of supernatural faith – and that includes the alleged Catholics, including clergy – who display the same irrational fear and dress it up as “prudence”.
Surely having a fear of a virus doesn’t make someone an “alleged” Catholic? I’d say being a judgemental, superior, nasty, bad tempered, grudge holding, troublemaking gossip might make someone an “alleged” Catholic.
Editor: well, quite…

The names (sic) [Editor] … Licenced (sic) to cause trouble.
Editor: as many will have guessed, this is our sometime troll, relentless, merciless. Can’t take a hint. Us gals, we all know the type. Anyway, in this latest comment he uses my own name, thus giving away the fact that he has posed as a friend. Some friend – he can only produce a very limited list of my character faults. A real friend would know them all 😀
I don’t think he got the last joke, by the way, so let’s try this one… Oh, and don’t worry – before you all start emailing me with ideas about how to get rid of him (again), this is his finale… Well, as James Bond anyway. In due course he will re-surface as someone else. Fixated. Can I help it, I ask you, if I have this effect on men? Say nothing, folks!

RCA Victor,
“Lord Sumption has a lot of gumption” LOL! I agree!
I agree that the fear is there due to lack of faith in God – I don’t see any other explanation TBH.
In our diocese (Galloway), the envelopes containing the November lists have to be left for three days before opening. It shows, though, that there is still great faith there as otherwise they would be waiting for four weeks and become the December lists.
Frankier,
I know I can be thick at times, a lot of the time, LOL! But why “three days” before opening the November envelopes? Do they think any donations in them will grow in interest? Don’t tell me it’s because they think it will help “stop the spread” – surely that can’t be it?
Julia Hartley-Brewer is a clear thinker in and good with her questions. Lord Sumption too. They seem to know exactly what is going on.
Catherine,
You are absolutely right about both Julia and Lord Sumption.
I admire Julia because she started out accepting that the lockdown was necessary and supporting the Prime Minister. However, as time passed and she interviewed various guests with the opposite view, as well as engaging in debate on Twitter etc., she has come to change her mind.
THAT is intelligence. It’s very rare indeed, these days. I never cease to marvel at how the majority of people (in my experience) just cannot bring themselves to say they are ever wrong about anything. It really amazes me.
So, I am impressed with Julia Hartley-Brewer. I had been impressed with her during the Brexit campaign – she was a Brexiteer who defended the position brilliantly in TV interviews, and she said that she, personally, would lead a protest if it didn’t come to pass! So, when I initially heard her views about the lockdown, I was very disappointed.
However, she has proven herself to be, as I have already said (but, as Groucho Marx said, if I’ve told you this before, don’t stop me, I want to hear it again) a person of real intelligence; her critical faculty works perfectly, unlike the alleged brains in the heads of the majority of the populations of the UK.

To answer Editor’s lead question: there is only one religious (Catholic) equivalent to Lord Sumption at the moment, and that Lordship is in hiding for fear of his life.Good thing he has a lot of trad pipelines to broadcast his warnings!
It occurs to me that there was already a comparable Great Reset in the Church, from 1962-1965: Vatican II, the inventor of “stakeholder liturgy” and “Smoke of Satan 65.” Now that was a real pandemic: it swept through the Church like a tidal wave, destroying souls by the millions. And the vaccine? The traditional Faith – marginalized, obscured, denounced, persecuted, falsely abrogated, and hardly permitted to do its work of salvation.
As the Church goes, so goes the world…
RCA Victor,
Well said – and the analogy between The Great Reset and Vatican II is on the button. It’s just a pity it took some of us (myself included) so long to see it.
I agree with Lord Sumption’s analyst of the Government’s use of fear on the population as a control tool and as a way for people to surrender their freedom.
I cannot name a single Religious equivalent of Lord Sumption, do not have the back-bone to defend Christ and his followers, they should never have shut their Churches or ceased their Services and if necessary be prepared to go to jail! They have complied all the way through and are guilty of not speaking out against unjust, unproven fake Science Laws, shame on them.
We do however, have brave single individuals who are prepared to stand up not only for their rights but also for ours, see Videos below.
Towards the end of the film clip below video maker Charles Veitch reminisces on how things used to be as he mixes with the public and you realise we may never get our freedoms back. People who take the Vaccine when the ‘COVID Passsports’ are introduced will have a certain amount of freedom, but I believe their health will suffer as a consequence and many will die. Sadly, we do not have a religious equivalent of Lord Sumption, but the guy making the video has a scottish accent, so well done Scotland! Pope Francis is never going to fight for our personal and religious freedoms he is a Communist and there are no Bishops anywhere in the UK willing to speak out. I’m sure a number of Bishops in the UK share Lord Sumption’s concerns now, but they are too frightened to say anything. The reason for this is that Vatican Two has robbed us of militant men ready to fight for God and lay down their life for him.
Francescomarta,
For technical reasons beyond my control, I am unable to hear videos today and I can’t get the subtitles to work. These look very interesting, though, and I will watch asap.
Editor
I hope the technical problems with the sound and subtitles are not “YouTube Shenanigans.”
If anyone is new to Catholic Truth Scotland the word “Militant” doesn’t mean armed insurrection. The Church Militant (Latin: Ecclesia militans), consists of Christians on earth who by their preaching and prayer struggle as soldiers of Christ against sin, the devil, and “the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.
Francescomarta,
No, I can’t blame YouTube for my technical problem – hopefully, it will be resolved tomorrow.
Thank you for that reminder of what it means to belong to the Church Militant – in the month which is dedicated to praying for the Church Suffering, while we are doing our best to get some of them to join the Church Triumphant! The Communion of Saints is a most beautiful doctrine.
Well well, what timing!

The answer to the question: “where is the religious equivalent of Lord Sumption”?
The answer is we don’t have one amongst the UK Bishops. There are many individuals with a Godly humanity and compassion, who are not frightened to speak out, as can be seen in this video clip.
