Neil Oliver: Last Lockdown? Fantasy! SNP = Scotland = Even More Fantasy!
Comment:
As talk in Scotland is turning to the May elections for Holyrood, Catholics need to listen closely to Neil Oliver’s observations about the way the SNP Government has damaged Scotland. More to the point for us, however, is the fact that the SNP is no friend of religion in general, and certainly no friend of the Catholic Church, as the Covid-19 restrictions have confirmed. Or maybe you think Neil Oliver needs to spend more time practising his bagpipes?
And for those who may have missed it, here is Alex Salmond giving evidence at the Holyrood Inquiry into issues surrounding the Scottish Government’s involvement in his court case… pleasingly, the proceedings begin with the oath to Almighty God…
From The Telegraph YouTube platform…
Alex Salmond has launched a blistering attack on Nicola Sturgeon and accused her government of subverting the founding principles of Holyrood. The Former First Minister told a committee set up to investigate a botched civil service probe into sexual harassment claims against him had been systematically obstructed by Ms Sturgeon’s administration which he said had been guilty of a “calculated and deliberate suppression of evidence”.
He also claimed he had been left “astonished” to see Ms Sturgeon this week apparently call into question the verdict of the jury after he was cleared of all charges last year.
Mr Salmond is questioned by MSPs on what he alleges was a conspiracy by the Scottish government and SNP against him. The former Scottish first minister appears as part of an inquiry into the government’s mishandling of sexual harassment complaints about him. Ends.
Share your thoughts … Is it right for any Christian to vote for a Parliament apparently chock full of corrupt politicians?

My understanding of the religious demographics of Scotland is that Catholics are a small minority (13% and declining), which makes them a perfect target for the SNP. However, since Scotland is predominantly Protestant (also declining), I wonder how the members of those denominations view the SNP, and how they vote? And further, how many SNP MSPs are members of Protestant denominations?
(Editor: note, I am not asking for the population of Glasgow…)
RCA Victor,
For the most part, I think it’s safe to say that there is no-one in the Scottish Parliament of sufficient religious conviction to allow their faith to get in the way of their advancement in politics. To put it mildly.
Ashamed to say, I’ve no idea of the numbers, but given the speed at which the various immoral laws have been passed without any real challenge, not a lot, I’d wager. And that includes the ongoing Hate Crime Bill. People have yet to fully waken up to the Woke nature of this latest attack on our freedom.

Soon, none of us will be free from Government interference in our everyday lives; religious freedom is taking a particularly heavy “hit”…

RCA Victor,
Your comment made me curious about how many SNP MSPs are Christians of any hue, so I searched and found that one is a “Wee Free” (member of the very strict Free Church of Scotland)

And LOL the second link to come up was to Catholic Truth! It’s about Dr Lisa Cameron

There was another one, a male who was an evangelical Christian, and he was given a hard time by the media for speaking out on moral matters.
I thought the Neil Oliver interview was fantastic – I agree with him that this lockdown won’t be the last, very unlikely to be, and when he spoke about Scotland as it used to be, well that was just a real trip down memory lane.
I well remember the days when everyone said that Scotland’s education system was the best in the world – no longer true, as he says. And it’s all down to the useless SNP, too busy talking about their mythical independence plans to get on with the work of governing Scotland as it is right now.
I think I speak for all patriots, though, when I say Scotland is still “the Brave!”
I only watched a few minutes of Alex Salmond’s hearing – yes, it was good to hear the old “I swear by almighty God to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” instead of the newer “Do you swear or affirm to tell the truth in these matters”. Maybe that’s just in the movies, maybe in real life it’s the old way – I hope so.
MM,
Would you believe it, sometimes when I am trying to find an older blog post or a comment that was published on the blog but can’t remember which one, I Google something on the topic and, nine times out of ten, one of our blog posts appears! It’s very helpful!
Interesting that you should mention “Scotland the Brave” – I’ve just seen a little bit of the American senator Ted Cruz’s address to a conference, in which he quotes William Wallace at the end, when he calls out “FREEDOM!” – Priceless!
As for the oath – I’m told that the one used in the Alex Salmond hearing is still in use in our courts, so that’s something to be glad about, as Pollyanna would say 😀
Editor,
Cruz had to say something dramatic, as he is in hot water with his fellow Texans. It seems he took a vacation to Cancun while Texas was freezing to death about a week ago. Talk about bad optics! (as they say in D.C.)
Margaret Mary,
Thank you for looking that up! What I was getting at was whether the SNPs’ fellow worshippers are aware that their allegedly Christian representatives are destroying their religion.
But it seems that the number of Christian worshippers in the SNP is miniscule. On the other hand, I’d bet that the number of money and power-worshippers is in the vast majority…
And just out of curiosity, what is it with fish species and the leaders of Scotland? Sturgeon, and now Salmond (OK, take off the D)? This suggests an obvious pun, but of course I’m much too sophisticated to stoop to such low-brow humor…
RCA Victor,
Our old (banned) friend Marc has posted the following information – I normally wouldn’t publish, but, hey, it’s Lent, and I need to do SOME penance…
Marc writes as follows…
John Mason is a Baptist, I believe. Murdo Fraser (Conservative) is, I think Free Church. Alex Salmond, of course, is a member of the Church of Scotland. There will doubtless be others.
John Mason, I think I’m right in saying, stood up against the Civil Partnerships legislation at the time (some years ago) and took quite a lot of stick for his trouble, God bless his tartan socks. Not sure about the rest of them.
After watching The Salom Witchunts on Alex Salmond it really goes to show just how Evil Sturgeon is . I am no fan of Alex Salmonds politics but am a Man who lives alone and I know that we ( as well as Women ) are under scrutiny . Of course I know Mr Salmond is Married so all of us are fair game ( no more than our Priests ) to be accused of Sexual Crimes . I know Ed that you have obviously watched more than the Video of Alex Salmond where he tells of Sturgeon talking of this Evil of Hers in a Chinese Disease update . Personally like you I cannot stand the Wummin and it really shows how Evil both Her and Her Husband are as he claims to be a MAN and any half decent Man would never have lied the way He has . Of course Sturgeon believes she is of The Elliot Ness Mob and may well be, as the ones who support Her care not for Morals of any kind .Also of course Wee Sturgeons Prodigy Derek McKay and his letters to the Teenage Boy of which I noticed all of the News outlets stated he was 16 the age of Sexual Consent supposedly . Then you have on the other side Ruthy who lets Face it wanted Richard Lucas hung drawn and quartered . Richard who himself says he will probably never Teach again . I don’t know if Neil Oliver is in Politics but its Honest Men and Women with Integrity and Morals that we so need . Interestingly and Hes 100% correct Mike Graham says ” Give the Scottish Referendum Vote to the English and we,ll Vote you out “.I was also having a discussion with a Guy who still went on about this Garbage its Scotlands Oil . I worked up North in the 70s and the only Scottish Investment in Oil was the Pudding and Haggis Suppers that were sent out to The Oil Rigs . As regards The Scottish Education System theyd rather teach about 100 Genders than any other subject .This also was no Surprise when Sturgeon was Striding out in front in that last Horrible Pride Thing .
FOOF,
There’s nothing wrong with Scottish education that reading a couple of your comments on this blog can’t put right 😀
Truth be told, I’ve not yet watched the entire Alex Salmond video – it’s four hours in all – but I do want to see the whole thing in due course. I haven’t seen the bit where she implies his guilt, during one of her Covid press briefings. What I AM wondering is whether Piers Morgan is still dewy-eyed about her, now that the Salmond allegations are coming into public view.
Neil Oliver isn’t in politics – he’s an archaeologist, and seems to be a TV presenter – I think he has a programme about…archaeology!
Aye yir spot on Ed . Just keep giving out the Pudding and Haggis Suppers . BTW are Pudding ,Haggis and Fish Suppers exempt from this Chinese Disease . I Personally wouldn’t put any of the 3 of them now into my system . But my local so called Chippy ( run by an Indian ) hows that for Diversity seems never to have closed at all . Especially in this 2nd Lockdown . Do you think as i do that some Hands could be getting greased here . Or is someone just getting heavy off of the Fat of the land . Even our Local Carry Out Chinese seems to be open 24 Hours a Day and its less than 200 Yards from our Local Catholic Church . Its certainly rubbing Salt possibly along with Vinegar into our wounds . As for your Cartoon above its so Apt now for this Godless Country where certainly it seems none of our so called politicians have any Morals at all .The Kangaroo Richard Lucas hearings of course proved that .
I really like those interviews with Neil Oliver – he’s so level headed, though he could use a haircut, LOL!
I agree with everything he says – both about the lockdown, they’ll always find an excuse to get us locked down again, and about Scotland under the SNP, it’s changed for the worse, sad to say.
Maybe that will change in May but I doubt it. There’s really no opposition party to speak of.
Lily as you say their is no opposition Party at the moment to speak of and that’s scary. It’s scary to think that the Sturgeons of this Land can do what they Please and when they Please. I personally think that there will be another Sturgeon Referendum and She may even lower the Voting age to 14 after all she has commanded that Children Report their Parents for various So Called S.N.P. Nazi Laws . One things for sure She will not resign. The only way She will go is if Her Party do a Maggie Thatcher on Her . I wonder if She has a Visit with Makron in the next few weeks.
The Alex Salmond evidence is totally damning. If Nicola Sturgeon survives this, there’s just no explaining it, at least not without insulting voters, LOL!
The SNP is already taking Scotland into Communism, and if Sturgeon gets her way and wins an independence vote, then we’ll not just be locked down, we’ll be locked in – to a Communist dictatorship.
I agree with Neil Oliver – this is unlikely to be the last lockdown. They’re getting away with ruling us in this dictatorial fashion, so they’ll not be giving it up anytime soon, IMHO.
Michaela,
I agree – Ms Sturgeon will NOT be enjoying a happy weekend. I think her days are well and truly numbered now…
Shouldn’t the SNP change its name to the SNSP – Scottish National Socialist Party? You know, to identify its commonality with the party that gave us Hitler and Goebbels.
RCA Victor,
I believe Nicola expressed a desire to have “Nationalist” removed from the name of her Party.
Having caught up with the Alex Salmond hearing, I think it’s the First Minister who will be changing, not the Party name!
I would suggest, anyway (continuing your theme) that SCP would be more appropriate – Scottish Communist Party… Dontcha think!
Not that you Americans can scoff these days – there’s a long overdue thread on the state of the States, so to speak, coming up shortly. So, hang fire on answering that one 😀
Theresa Rose posted the comments and video below on the Vexatious Vaccine thread, but I think it’s worth posting here, as well.
Madeleine Stone, is a legal and policy officer specialising in emergency powers. In a few short minutes she talks of ‘5 things you need to know about the UK’s Current Lockdown.
1. Excessive policing. 2. Online Censorship. 3. Protest bans. 4. A Digital Coup.
5. Vaccine Passports.
Scary stuff about the collection of information on any giving individual – especially digital information, and that is as yet without the digital chip placed into your body at sometime in the future.
I copied this from Lockdown Sceptics today. It shows Neil Oliver was right to say this won’t be the last lockdown.
“Despite newly toughened entry requirements to the UK, a ‘variant of concern’ first detected in Brazil has made its way onto our shores, as the BBC reports.
Three cases have been detected in England and separately three in Scotland.
In England, officials are still trying to track down one of those who tested positive for the new variant.
The three Scottish residents had flown to north-east Scotland from Brazil via Paris and London, the Scottish government said.
Experts believe this variant (P1) – first detected in travellers to Japan from Manaus in northern Brazil in January – could be more contagious.
There are also concerns vaccines may not be as effective against it – but NHS England’s Prof Stephen Powis said vaccines could be “rapidly adapted”.
Dr Susan Hopkins, from Public Health England (PHE), said the UK was more advanced than many other countries in identifying the variants and mutations and therefore able to act quickly.
Alistair Haimes greeted the news with a tongue-in-cheek Tweet, commenting that “sceptics might note that this news has magically appeared just when the parks are full because the data has got so much better. But as many of you have pointed out, I’m a credulous soul.”
Advocates of Zero Covid have been having a tricky week too, as the supposedly Covid-free island fortresses of New Zealand and the Isle of Man have hurtled back into various shutdowns and restrictions after, inevitably, finding cases again. The BBC reports on the Manx situation:
Nine new cases of coronavirus have been detected on the Isle of Man, including two that cannot be linked to a known chain of transmission, the government has said.
People have been urged to stay at home, avoid mixing with other households and postpone events as a “precaution”.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle said it was now “possible that the virus is circulating in the community” again.
A clearer picture would be known “within 24 hours”, he added.
Mr Quayle said while the government had “stopped short” of making the measures a legal requirement, the “clear advice” was for people to stay at home where possible as a “precautionary measure for now”.
“As we are unable at this stage to link either of these cases to a known transmission chain – or to each other – we must conclude that it is possible that the virus is circulating in the community,” Mr Quayle said.
The island has on two previous occasions celebrated lifting all its restrictions after stints with no known new infections, most recently on February 1st. It comes just after the news, which we included in yesterday’s round up, that Auckland was imposing a seven-day lockdown after detecting just one case. At least both offer an example of what the reality of life would be like under a ‘Zero Covid’ regime.” (end of lockdown sceptics report).
Here’s a video clip showing Biden’s cognitive struggles.
Here’s a conversation which took place the day before Alex Salmond’s appearance at the Scottish Parliamentary Enquiry… followed by a link to the information from which he was not allowed to quote (see the video in the introduction…) but which is published in full on the Spectator website. This is explained in the conversation below, but, in short, it reveals the utter corruption of the Scottish Parliament…

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/full-text-alex-salmond-s-submission-to-the-hamilton-inquiry
Nicola Sturgeon is appearing before the Holyrood enquiry today, but I thought this short summary of what the situation is all about, was quite interesting.
Today, it was Nicola Sturgeon’s turn to give evidence at the Holyrood enquiry into what went wrong with the procedure used against Alex Salmond, facing allegations from a number of women.
Interestingly, while Alex Salmond took the traditional oath – “I swear by Almighty God to tell the truth… etc”, Mz Surgeon merely “affirmed” albeit “sincerely” that she would tell the truth.
So, there it is – evidence, if any were needed that, despite her marriage service taking place in a Church of Scotland building (Wikipedia), she isn’t – in fact – a believer, even in the existence of God. No surprise there – indeed, it explains an awful lot…
I’ve not had time to watch the entire session, but hope to catch up with it in due course.
