Holyrood or Hollywood? Will Scottish Election in May Be Safe, Fair & Legal?
Comment:
Shouldn’t the alleged Catholic politicians – not to mention the Scottish Bishops – take the lead here?
After the debacle of the American election in November, the last thing we need in Scotland is any question of corrupt elections in May.
So, should the Holyrood elections be postponed or should we prepare for another SNP victory, aka Best Actress Award, Hollywood style?

I wish to apologise to any and every American reading this.
Earlier today, I stumbled across an advertisement on YouTube which seems to be broadcast on American TV channels – an advertisement for the Alexa device, headlined something like “If Alexa were Scottish” (or similar).
The ad shows an American family, delighted at receiving their parcel from Amazon, and each of them asking Alexa a question.
The answers come in a Scottish voice – a male voice – and each answer is cruder than the one before. A total embarrassment. The “F” word features in every answer – that and other crudities.
I’ve noticed this for years now, that for some unfathomable reason, my fellow Scots – certainly those working in the “entertainment/advertising” industry -seem to think that it puts Scotland in a positive light to portray Scots as being brainless and so inarticulate that we cannot compose a sentence without using bad language and crudities.
As I say, totally embarrassing. I switched off before the end, but what I saw was cringeworthy in the extreme. I live here, so I can’t do anything about that now, but if I lived in foreign parts, Scotland would not be my first (or 50th) choice of holiday destination. Unless you have a particular attraction to loud-mouthed, uncouth men who can’t string a sentence together without using the “F” word and naming the male body parts for the purpose of insulting someone or “being funny”, my advice to you is to book a holiday in winsome Wales.
On topic…
Yes, I think the elections should be postponed until every Party has had a fair chance to fight for votes.
Yes I believe the allegedly Catholic politicians in Holyrood should take the lead in ensuring that there can be no allegations of corruption in the May elections.
Yes, I believe the bishops should issue a public statement to this effect. Copy to Catholic Truth 😀
Editor,
Scottish humour is “off” a lot of the time. There’s always vulgar talk. It’s a pity, but that’s the reality, for some reason script-writers think it’s popular.
There is a lot of talk of calling for a vote of confidence over Nicola Sturgeon’s behaviour over Alex Salmond and the number of sleaze scandals in the SNP
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/snp-slammed-as-obsessed-sturgeon-accused-of-putting-wrecking-ball-through-economy/ar-BB1eDozp
The SNP is so Marxist that it would be a disaster for Scotland if they get a majority again because they’ll drive through policies and indyref2 like never before. We need to pray for Scotland like true patriots, which is not the same as nationalists..
The S.N.P. will win with a landslide and as for Sturgeon I cannot use the words on here of which ad really like to say .You are also correct of course that another ( and I really hate that saying INDY REF ) will go ahead .The S.N.P. of course will maybe lower the Voting Age to 10 this time around as they lowered it the last time from 18 to 16 . As for our Scottish Catholics Hierarchy speaking out against the Communist S.N.P. there is no chance, am actually with the Orangemen when it comes to Indy .And I never ever thought the day would come when I said that . God Help Our Children .
I can’t see any Catholic politicians or clergy speaking out against the SNP in any way. They are all hand-in-glove. I don’t remember any statement from the bishops on the shocking Hate Crime Bill so they’re hardly likely to bother about the May elections, IMHO.
Margaret Mary,
Ever since Peter Kearney, who speaks for the bishops, came out as an SNP supporter, it has been clear that the bishops are in Ms Sturgeon’s pocket. She has spoken at Catholic education conferences, She praised Catholic schools to the hilt, whereas, if they had been doing their job, the jails would be full of Catholic teachers LOL!
The elections won’t be postponed, because the polls are good for the SNP

As long as they are supporting cultural Marxism, they’ll win. Scots are very left wing, have been for years. The Conservatives were always portrayed as the bogey men and Labour proved to be totally corrupt, so I think we’re stuck with the SNP for as long as it takes for the pope to consecrate Russia! It’s all part of the diabolical disorientation, IMHO.
I agree with you 100% again ( this is getting a Habit ED ) of the Scottish Humour ( or lack of ) and personally I think the last so called Scottish Comedy Program I watched was the One O Clock Gang . I personally don’t know of any Scottish Comedians or Programs of whom ad actually watch were they even performed in my back garden . I of course don’t want to name any names here due to the recent Hate Bill but one Guy really sickens me .Al give you all a clue and leave it at that .He actually made ,or tried to make a Joke about a Celebrities Young Blind Autistic Son .I of course only read it in the news .Sick is not a word to describe it .BTW The same so called Comedian was selling Tickets for a Show in Glasgow advertised at £ 80 each ,what kind of Person would pay that amount of money to listen to pure Garbage .The next so called comedian I will name and its our old Put the Boot Right into The Catholic Church Billy Connelly .This was or is the Guy who made a so called Comedy Routine of Our Lords Passion .This is a Man who Approx 10 Years ago said on an Interview with that Horrible Wife of His that HE blamed The Catholic Church for his Father Sexually Abusing Him .That am sure isn’t hate speech because the Video is in the TV archives .The same Man like us all is getting old and who knows HE may ( if His Ego allows Him ) ask for a Priest on His Death Bed .I hope God can forgive because I cannot . As for Sturgeon the ones who Pay £ 80 to listen to a Reprobate will Vote for the S.N.P.as for Her Daily Acting I never watched Her, but Alex Salmond said recently that She commented on Her Fall Out with him on one of Her Chinese Disease Update Shows, that should have been enough to take Her off M.S. TV . Obviously it wasn’t .
Faith of our Fathers,
I agree about the humour and Billy Connolly is one of the most disgusting men on the planet. How anyone can think he is funny, is beyond me. I didn’t know that about his father – it’s a true saying, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
FOOF
I remember that interview Connelly gave. I had to laugh at it, not the kind of laughs he normally gets though.
He said his father interfered with him because the Church refused his father a divorce, thus stopping him from having a second wife. I couldn`t fathom his father`s way of thinking. He didn`t want to break Church law by taking another woman outside of marriage but it was OK to rape his wee boy.
Maybe his father was swayed by his effeminate tone of voice.
Frankier,
I find that critics of the Church often have the most perverted and twisted thought processes.
They start with the conclusion that “Church = bad” and then jump through absurd hoops to try to support the conclusion.
I wonder what our LGBT friends would make of his comments that being unable to divorce can somehow change a man’s sexuality?
Connolly had a very hard life as a child and so perhaps we should not be too hard on him.
I was a big fan of his earlier work, when he played to local Glasgow audiences and sang folk songs etc as part of his act. There was no swearing or filth, yet he had people rolling in the aisles.
It was the same during his early UK-wide fame.
Sadly, international fame seemed to transform him and his act degenerated to the point of just standing on the stage shouting “f***”.
I very much think that version of Connolly was the prototype for the kind of uncouth stereotype Editor laments above.
Eh sorry Connelly had a Very Hard Life as a Child well blow me down, and I thought I was the only one who had a hard life as a child .Well I wasn’t Sexually molested ,but boy we had it Hard .And as for that Interview it was His Second Wife who was interviewing him .Personally I never found the Man funny at all and he made the Passion of Christ Routine in 1973 in Airdrie .I was in the Guy I worked fors House and it was on a Vinyl Record of which he asked me to listen to .I was certainly no prude in 1973 but it sickened me even then and walked out . I cannot stand the Man .
FOOF,
I’m afraid I was very cynical when he claimed sexual abuse at the hands of his father – on the day of his father’s funeral. I thought (to quote Oprah Winfrey)… What?!!”?&*
Not exactly on topic, but still…

Gabriel Syme,
I remember Billy Connolly in those early days, as well. In fact, I came close to meeting him when he attended a party in a neighbour’s house. When I say I came close, I mean I would have met him if I’d been invited to the party 😀
However, by the time he’d reached fame and fortune, I found him insufferable. Crude and not remotely funny. Very sad. I wonder what makes people laugh at crudity? I’ve never understood it and I think I’ve got a good sense of humour. Just ask Charlie Chaplin 😀
Ed & GS,
The same Billy Connolly devolution happened to a comedian over here named Steven Wright, who was famous for his deadpan delivery (and clean, unusual humor) back in the 1980s. He is Catholic, as well, and even did a telling joke about the evil of abortion.
Now, however, vulgarity has overtaken him. As it has, I might add, the rest of society at large. Driven largely, I suspect, by TV, Hollywood and the popular music industry.
Gabriel Syme,
I’ve noticed another pattern about apostates over the recent years: if someone in their family, or their significant other, was a bad character – and happened to be Catholic – the Church gets blamed for the character faults, and then rejected (and condemned). In fact, I would go as far as to guess that this pattern is one of the major reasons for apostasy.
Frankier,
I second Laura’s observation about apples and trees. Definitely. 100%
We now know that we are going to be under different restrictions in April. There’s no way this is ever going to end. Anyone who believes the dates in here, really does need their head examined.
https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/scotland-lockdown-reopening-dates-sturgeon-20182348?utm_source=glasgow_live_newsletter&utm_campaign=daily_newsletter2&utm_medium=email
There are valid points raised in the video, certainly.
Note how the SNP have been putting restrictions on everything and “making no promises” about when normality could return, yet they could precisely set the date of an election many months in advance, when 100s & 1000s of people must mingle in polling stations.
Sturgeon and the BBC are both a disgrace for their abuse of her covid TV platform. Very clearly, whoever controls BBC Scotland fancies him or herself as the boss of a new ‘SBC’.
I am encouraged that recent polls put an SNP majority in doubt and show independence support dropping. I think the SNP would be in the doldrums were it not for Sturgeon’s fizzog being regularly beamed into every living room in the land.
I like Neil Oliver a lot (including for his work as a historian) but he really needs to do something with his hair. May I suggest a fetching “3mm all over” as sported by myself! 😛
Gabriel Syme,
Agree on all counts.
And (about that haircut) I thought, as a doting dad, you would enjoy this joke…

BTW, Ed, I just noticed your use of the dreaded scam-demic word “safe” in this topic headline. And speaking of words, I wonder why “Holyrood” has not been made a victim of the cancel culture yet. After all, we can’t have anything holy about the Communist State, can we? It might be offensive to the unholy…
RCA Victor,
The best rebuttal to the “stay safe” nonsense came in an article on the Lockdown Sceptics website.
They were reporting on one of the recent Boris Covid updates, when the message was the usual blend of a little easing of restrictions with a cautious warning of the need to continue to follow the rules, wash your hands blah blah.
In other words, as the writer of the above mentioned article wrote in all cynism: the message is “stay scared”!
Priceless!
The latest madness from the SNP is reported in The Spectator – article by a student from the University of Edinburgh…

I’m wondering if there will be any restrictions in place for the elections in May?
I hear Nicola Sturgeon saying things should be back to normal by June, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
If we’ve to wait until June, then what happens at the polling booths? Will huge crowds be allowed to queue up, will we have to wear masks and stay 6 feet apart etc? Or will it takes days to do the voting?
Well, here’s a turn up for the books…
That is no surprise really – she was bound to be caught out eventually.
This is from Lockdown Sceptics, a report about students being targeted by the police on a beach. It comments that the police in Scotland have been more authoritarian than anywhere else in the country. It is also interesting to see what the report says about the police not following “the science” LOL!
It just shows that this authoritarian behaviour is about fallen human nature being allowed to run free, people being officious. It’s really got nothing to do with the virus.
https://lockdownsceptics.org/chased-by-edinburghs-keystone-cops/
Here’s the latest Neil Oliver interview on the Mike Graham talkRADIO show – he really does speak his mind about the SNP…
And below you can see and hear David Davis MP giving his full statement to the Westminster Parliament on the Salmond Enquiry and the growing controversy around the First Minister…
It looks like Nicola Sturgeon has been found not to “knowingly” breach the ministerial code.
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/scotland%20news/nicola-sturgeon-cleared-of-breaching-ministerial-code/ar-BB1eQs1e?ocid=entnewsntp
Personally, I guessed that it would be that “knowingly” which gets her off the hook.
Breaking news! Alex Salmond has launched his own independence party – the Alba Party Nicola will go crazy, LOL!
