Happy St Patrick’s Day 2021 – Please Pray for Formerly Catholic Ireland Today…

For those of you who may think that I was baptised “Editor” allow me to explain that I am proud to claim St Patrick as my patron saint – I am, therefore, sometimes called Patricia, sometimes Pat and very often other things as well.  Say no more…

As always with devotional threads, feel free to post relevant comments, stories, jokes, and your favourite prayers and hymns.

In addition to the above hymn to Saint Patrick, enjoy the lovely hymn below, to Our Lady of Knock

Happy Feast of St Patrick to all bloggers and visitors to this site!

    Dear Editor,
Thank you, indeed poor old Ireland could do with a second St Patrick – my Irish heart grieves for it.😇

      Patrick,

Sadly true – we can only pray that when the diabolical disorientation is overcome in the world and the Church, Ireland will be restored to its former Catholicity.

    Happy St Pats day everyone.

    I heard an appalling joke:

Q – What do you call an Irish Spider?

    A – Paddy long legs.

I told you it was awful!

Happy Saint Patrick’s day everyone. I agree that Ireland could do with a second Saint Patrick, sad when Ireland once “exported” priests and nuns around the world.

      Theresa Rose,

Yes, it’s sad to think about the way Ireland sent missionaries all over the world and now has turned its back on the Church. Won’t be the end of the story, though. Stay tuned!

Happy Saint Patrick Day to all and probably like most on here it brings a little tear to the eye also .On this Day many of us ( I most certainly do ) cast our minds back to those days when we used to sing that Great Hymn with Gusto with our Ancestors in mind .Sorry if I seem a bit off key but it was always a little Emotional for me . As for the Lady of Knock it is a most Beautiful Hymn sang by a Lovely Person . Also the song to Monseigneur Horan who as you will know Ed laid the Foundations for Knock . Am not great at posting links so I hope its OK . God Bless Ireland and God Bless you all .To any who haven’t heard this it is a great Tribute to Him .https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=nb3UAoylLwk&feature=share

Happy St Patrick’s Day, FOOF and I understand that little “tear to the eye”…

I don’t remember his name but I remember that the priest who was at the forefront of promoting Knock was quite a character. He was interviewed on the bad old BBC and – to be fair – they gave him a fair chance to promote the shrine, laughing themselves at his enthusiasm.

Have come late to the blog, so will listen to your link another time.

As we Italians would say, Happy St. Patrizio’s Day!

Ever notice the flags of Ireland and Italy are almost identical? Who copied whom?

      RCA Victor,

Once you watch the video below, with Fr Sherry’s account of the histories of Ireland and Scotland – where Ireland was actually the first Scotland – you’ll realise that the Irish flag had to come first because the Scots would NEVER copy like that; we’re talented and original, so the Irish flag had to have been first… 😀

    Here’s an Irish joke:

    What’s Irish Alzheimer’s?

That’s where you forget everything but your grudges…

      Happy Feast Day to all!

Fr. Murphy walks out of the church doors and sees Paddy staggering around drunk on the opposite side of the street. He shouts out “drunk again Paddy?”, to which Paddy responds, “Aye, me too, Father”

Here’s what looks to be a very interesting video about St Patrick and the links between Scotland and Ireland. A very interesting history lesson, so far (I’ve yet to finish viewing, but what I’ve seen/heard, is rivetting).

      Editor,

That’s a great video – I really like Fr. Sherry…and not just because he was drinking water from an actual glass!

Here’s a speculative question for any historians or anthropologists on the blog: I wonder if there is something in the character of the Picts which made both the Reformation and socialism so attractive to them that they were widely embraced.
