General Discussion (18)…

If there’s something of interest in the news that’s not covered in one of the topic threads, or you have a question to ask, a comment you’d like to make about anything under the sun, more or less, this is the thread for you.

However, please check first, to ensure that you haven’t missed a topic thread or another thread where it would be appropriate to post your comment, as the GD discussion threads fills up very quickly.

Readers, all too often, go straight to the General Discussion thread to post news that is already the topic of a thread or to ask a question that is already being discussed elsewhere. So, do your Sherlock Holmes – at the very least check the side-bar – before posting here, please and thank you! Your “news” may simply be a different angle on a subject already under discussion, so do, please check before posting your comment here. OR it would be helpful if you could check out the most recent thread on that subject, in case it is still open. In which case, your comment would be best placed there.

Feel free, also, to share your favourite spiritual reading books, prayers and devotions on this thread. Whatever. Enjoy!

      Third secret revealed :

The last pope will be under the control of Satan, will seek to destroy the church
A divine chastisement of no lamb on the alter or forgiveness of sins for three and a half years , then Christ will reveal himself

Editor – Source? Since the Third Secret has not been published, you need to make clear your source. That is, you need to name the genius who has worked this out, please and thank you.

The three and a half years (or 42 months) is from a biblical prophecy concerning the reign of Antichrist and cessation of the sacrifice just prior to the end of the world and the last judgment. That is not applicable to these present times since, as Our Lady told the children at Fatima, there must first come the triumph of her Immaculate Heart and a period of peace in the world. So, someone is quoting Fatima (the Third Secret) out of context. They sound like a sedevacantist with such a ridiculous interpretation.

Pope Benedict XVI Says Vatican II Was Initiated Because of the “Error in the Case of Galileo”

May be old news but this is the first time I heard of this! In context of the alleged statement of the Third Secret of Fatima and the wicked council.

      Victor,

I don’t have time to read the article properly but as soon as I saw the name of the author of the piece – Robert Sungenis – I more or less wrote it off.

A man who could write (correctly) that the Consecration of Russia has not been done, and the Third Secret not fully revealed and then – when things worsen dramatically – change his mind to proclaim the opposite… well, this is not a man whom I would trust to tell me it was raining, if he turned up on my front doorstep, drenched and with his brolly dripping.

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that of the author’s flip flops! I was mostly interested in Benedict’s farewell address to priests quoted in the document which I’d never heard. Published in L’Osservatore Romano which has since gone to subscription-only access but I’ve found it reposted in full on another site in the Italian. Here’s the main quote from Benedict on Vatican II that got my interest:

. . . we knew that the relationship between the Church and the modern period was a bit in conflict, beginning with the error of the Church in the case of Galileo Galilei; we thought we could correct this wrong beginning and find the union between the Church and the best forces in the world . . .

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. I’ve been adding my signature to a lot of online petitions against abortion, LGBT education in schools, satanism, etc, etc . I’ve been receiving a lot of really nasty sexually explicit spam and wonder if this is just a coincidence?

I’ve had a similar problem. I can’t say any of it’s been sexual in content – it’s mainly just scam / spam stuff – but I’ve been bombarded recently. These General Data Protection Regulations that were mandated by the EU (and we’re still lumbered with) just don’t seem to work. There’s always a way round these things. I still get spam letters through the door, but now just addressed to ‘The Occupant’ instead of my name. Apparently, this is quite legal.
There have been instances of mega-hacks recently where millions of people’s names, email addresses, passwords and details have been harvested by hackers. You may have been in one of those data breaches. You can check if your email address has been the subject of a data breach here:- https://haveibeenpwned.com

Please be aware of a scam that is trying to look like the genuine apostolate LifeSite News. They are sending emails out and if you click on any of the links, it tries to download a trojan virus. Fortunately, my Norton antivirus picked up on it and blocked the site. DON’T click on or open any emails from news@lifenews.com Just to clarify – these emails are not from LifeSite news, which is a genuine apostolate.

I can’t connect to the transcript you linked, something to do with website signature verification. No matter, I learned all I need to know from the Wikileaks link.

Several very concerning incidents for Catholics in Scotland in recent days:

St Simons Church in Partick (Glasgow) has burned down:
(reminiscent of recent attacks on Canadian Churches).

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/homenews/19473341.fire-st-simons-church-glasgows-partick-nearby-homes-evacuated/#comments-anchor

A priest was attacked by a bottle in St Marys Cathedral, Edinburgh. In a prolonged incident, the priest was attacked after being asked to confirm that he was a priest; the priest was ultimately forced to defend himself using a chair as a weapon.

Sacred Heart Church, Bridgeton, Glasgow, has suffered repeated vandalism. This has not even made the news seemingly.

    https://twitter.com/Call_It_Out_/status/1409850696489447424

Had any one of these incidents targeted Muslims in Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon would be all over it- press conferences etc, you name it. But not a peep from her here.

      Gabriel Syme,

Thank you for posting that news – none of which I’d heard.

St Simon’s is the church where a couple of the CT team attended a “gay” Mass, reported in the newsletter. So that is of particular interest. Sacred Heart, Bridgeton, too, made the newsletter front page.

I haven’t yet read the report about the priest being attacked in the Cathedral in Edinburgh – shocking.

As you say, had this news been about the Muslim community Nicola Sturgeon would have been vocal in the media.

And to think a few short years ago she was invited to address a Conference on Catholic Education. We live in incredible times.

Further to my post above about St Simons, a man (24) has been charged with wilful fire raising, according to a very vague BBC report:

      https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-58246158

Apparently someone had to be “assisted from the building” during the fire – I presume its the man who has been charged.

Had this been a mosque, I am sure we would know all abut the man and his background by now, with people lining up to condemn him.

Of course, given the useless Scottish Bishops have – as usual – failed to utter a syllable, I suppose we cant criticise others for keeping quiet too.

The man who has been charged can thank his lucky stars he was only burning down a Church and not attending a TLM – the latter would have had +Toal down on him like a ton of bricks (that is not a reference to the good Bishops weight – boom boom!).

Speaking of +Toal, I have heard two alarming reports recently that he is in the running for the vacant post in Glasgow. The other candidates are a tailors dummy, a stuffed gonk, a parrot which can say “Bless you” and the former moderator of the Church of Scotland. Apparently its too close to call.

Maybe +Toal is to be a brought in as a hatchet man to stamp out the 4 regular Sunday TLMs in the diocese? (Immaculate Heart, Sacred Heart, St Brigids – all Glasgow City – and St Peters, Dumbarton). Please God, no.

    Dear Editor and Bloggers,

I would like to ask if this blog would consider adding another permanent thread for Catechism and Apologetics as one topic for people who want to ask questions and discuss the various topics instead of going on the general thread.. I think it would be very useful for many people,. In my case, I would like to teach my children catechism and later apologetics with more confidence. I often have many questions, it would be useful if my young adult students or myself can post a question and discuss it. This will help us also to prepare ourselves to defend the faith better, when family and friends ask us questions we struggle to answer. I know we could use the general thread but if it was a dedicated thread, other people, e.g. homeschoolers may already have asked it and the answer will be easy to find. May be this would be of interest to others already on the blog but even people looking for catechism answers will find this blog when they search these questions, and hopefully become more informed and it may even help to convert people. I definitely think it would be easier than on the general thread. I would be grateful if the editor would consider this idea.

      Catherine,

I know that sounds like a great idea but believe me, if home-schoolers and others keen to learn about the Faith were that interested, they’d be here right now.

I’m not keen to post another “sticky” thread (in fact, not sure I would know how on this new site!) but you are always welcome to post questions on this GD thread and one of us will attempt to respond.

I will, however, keep your request in mind and maybe in the future, there will be an opportunity to do something along the lines which you suggest. For now, though, you have both the GD thread and the Pro-Life thread. Feel free to ask anything on either of those threads – and you can always use the topic threads when appropriate, as well.

My worry now is that I’ll be removed from your Christmas card list… 😀

Here’s the Sexual Revolution’s next step: pornography for children.

A tweet spread sent out by British Broadcasting Company (BBC) suggested to viewers the possibility of “age-appropriate porn” [sic] to “teach” children about pornography.

CLICK HERE to sign the petition to BBC, demanding that they apologize and retract their dangerous suggestion

    According to reports:

“BBC Woman’s Hour asked social media followers to submit opinions about ‘the best way to inform teenagers’ about ‘age-appropriate porn.’

The women’s radio magazine program — which has been on the air since 1946 — tweeted on [August 3]: ‘What’s the best way to inform teenagers about porn? Should there be age-appropriate porn as has been suggested so they can learn about consent and what’s respectful and what’s not? What do you think? Email us your opinions.’…

“As Operation Underground Railroad founder Tim Ballard recently explained to The Daily Wire, sex traffickers rely upon pornographic material to ripen children for abuse: ‘If they can get access, they will try to desensitize them by showing them sexual things.’ ”

    (Source: DailyWire.com; emphasis added)

Sign the petition to BBC, demanding an unequivocal and unreserved apology for its suggestion of pornography for minors

The consequences of this would be devastating.

Besides the destruction of innocence and the addiction to pornography, which is already a pandemic, there is also the danger that these under-age teenagers would emulate the perverse things they see.

Worse, teaching “age-appropriate” pornography and softening it with “consent” can very well lead to the worse sexual crimes: “consensual” pedophilia.

We must nip this danger in the bud.

Please sign our petition, demanding an unreserved apology for even suggesting that pornography should be available to minors.

    I remain,

    Sincerely,

    John Horvat

A Catholic priest has been murdered in France: Fr. Olivier Maire, French provincial superior of the Montfort Missionaries.

The suspect – who handed himself in to Police – is an illegal immigrant from Rwanda, Emmanuel Abayisenga.
Apparently the man had been helped by the Church, as regards his illegal status and avoiding deportation etc.

Remarkably, the murder suspect is already the subject of another Police investigation, having set fire to Nantes Cathedral last year.

    https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/248621/breaking-catholic-priest-murdered-in-france-says-countrys-interior-minister

While I understand why the Church wishes to help those on the margins etc, it could certainly do a better job as regards its duty of care towards clergy and the general public. It seems naive to the point of stupidity to continue to entertain an obviously very dangerous individual, with these tragic results.

      Gabriel Syme,

I second your closing comment, 200%. Admittedly, I can be prone to exaggeration…

I had hoped that, following the murder of the Polish student Angelika Kluk thanks to the ridiculous social-working mentality of the then PP of St Patrick’s church in Glasgow (now deceased), the hierarchy across the world might have learned the very obvious lesson. Leave the various institutions of State and social/charitable groups to give practical assistance to those in need rather than endanger lives for the sake of a Gospel which does not require such worldly activity as priests accommodating waifs and strays on church premises – the particular “stray” who, in the case of the Glasgow murder, turned out to be serial killer using a false name. At the time, I rang the Salvation Army in Glasgow and asked if they ever – for any reason – had to turn any homeless person away. Answer: no, never. So for these priests to seek the role of social worker, instead of referring those in need to relevant agencies, is really irritating.

Now this latest French murder. Again, it’s not the role of any priest to take on the case(s) of illegal immigrants. Frankly, I think that is, in and of itself, tantamount to criminal activity. The only legitimate role for any priest meeting with an illegal immigrant seeking assistance, is to hand them the address of the relevant immigration agency.

      Gabriele Syme

This highlights once again the very real threat illegal immigration poses to all countries. Donald Trump highlighted this perfectly with that ruthless South American gand known (I think) as M13. In Europe the threat is twofold – general criminals of all sorts slipping through the net into our communities and radical Islamists bent on getting into Europe to Kill non-Muslims. In France, sadly, the killing of priests and burning of churches by this latter element is all too common, so common in fact that I think it is beyond doubt the globalists running our world, the ones behind the flood of illegal immigrants, are using them as a tool to further eradicate Christianity from our culture. I think some writer somewhere recently made this connection between Communists and their use of radical Islam. It is truly shocking.

No less shocking is the false charity of our Pope, bishops and certain priests who aid this mass criminality under the pretext of helping the marginalised. There is a proper set of rules for those in the world who are genuinely fleeing from danger to their lives. These can seek asylum in Western countries if they can prove that their lives are at risk. The vast majority, however, are either criminals or economic migrants flooding into our countries and overwhelming our systems and our culture. Supporting this is not charity, it’s insanity! This is what happens when men of the Church lose those special gifts from God called supernatural faith and wisdom.

In the latest remarkable sign of Pope Francis’ contempt for Catholics – and how un-seriously he regards his role – it is reported today that he interrupted his weekly general audience in order to take a mobile phone call.

He then walked out on the audience, returning after a while in order to greet those present.

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/holy-calling-pope-francis-has-phone-chat-during-audience-with-public/ar-AANc8e8?ocid=uxbndlbing

We can only guess at who or what was so important that this behaviour was necessary.

Who could imagine (for example) Queen Elizabeth taking a mobile phone call – or walking out – during the Trooping of the Colour at Horse Guards?

(Obviously there is no direct comparison, but the point is about the conduct and priorities of public figures).
