Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an “unspeakable crime”.54

But today, in many people’s consciences, the perception of its gravity has become progressively obscured. The acceptance of abortion in the popular mind, in behaviour and even in law itself, is a telling sign of an extremely dangerous crisis of the moral sense, which is becoming more and more incapable of distinguishing between good and evil, even when the fundamental right to life is at stake. Given such a grave situation, we need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper name, without yielding to convenient compromises or to the temptation of self-deception. In this regard the reproach of the Prophet is extremely straightforward: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness” (Is 5:20). Especially in the case of abortion there is a widespread use of ambiguous terminology, such as “interruption of pregnancy”, which tends to hide abortion’s true nature and to attenuate its seriousness in public opinion. Perhaps this linguistic phenomenon is itself a symptom of an uneasiness of conscience. But no word has the power to change the reality of things: procured abortion is the deliberate and direct killing, by whatever means it is carried out, of a human being in the initial phase of his or her existence, extending from conception to birth.

The moral gravity of procured abortion is apparent in all its truth if we recognize that we are dealing with murder… Pope John Paul II: Evangelium Vitae – on the Value and Inviolability, of Human Life #58  [Emphasis added]   Click here to read the entire encyclical

This morning, BBC Radio 4 gave their prominent platform of Thought for the Day to a Catholic commentator who proceeded to state, unchallenged, that abortion laws in the UK “demean people with disability.”
It is deeply problematic that BBCR4 continue to give an unchallenged platform for these proclamations. Would we accept the BBC providing the same platform for an individual to espouse their religious opposition to same-sex relationships, for example?
The presentation of Thought of the Day suggests that individuals given this prestigious platform are representative of those with the same religious beliefs.
This is simply not true. NatCen Social Research polling has found that the majority of Catholics in GB support a women’s right to choose.
Abortion has been legal in certain circumstances since 1967. One in three women will have an abortion in their lifetime. We are a pro-choice country.
You would not get this impression listening to the coverage, dominated by pieces problematizing abortion on BBCR4.
Why is abortion coverage always an issue of morality, always a debate?
In this country, abortion is an accepted part of women’s healthcare.
Would we accept any other NHS-funded routine medical procedure being constantly framed in this way? No.
Does anyone recall BBCR4 Thought for the Day featuring a religious individual espousing their views on the morality of same-sex relationships when, for example, PrEP started to be provided by the NHS?
Since the govt granted temporary permission for early medical abortion care to be provided by telemedicine, we have created a world-leading reproductive healthcare framework.
Yet this incredible revolution in women’s healthcare is constantly boxed-in as a moral debate.
Thought for the Day is famed for tenuous links between current affairs and religious views, but using the amazing results from the Paralympics to condemn women who make heartbreaking decisions to end wanted pregnancies due to a diagnosis of a severe fetal anomaly is pretty low.
We are sick of constantly having to challenge the way the most common gynecological procedures in the UK is being presented.
Abortion is healthcare. This isn’t a matter for debate.

Dear All please note above the heinous BPAS upset over a Catholic commentator you might like to contact BBC Radio 4

Subject: March for Life this weekend

    Dear wendy,

The past eighteen months have been challenging. The pandemic has brought limitations in our ability to publicly protest against abortion and the other evils brought about by our culture of death.

Most large outdoor events from March 2020 until now have been cancelled due to worries around COVID-19. This affected pro-life events that CitizenGO would typically attend.

    This Saturday that all changes.

We at CitizenGO are ecstatic to have the opportunity to participate in the March for Life UK. And, we hope to see you there!

This Saturday, September 4th, March for Life UK is a day-long event. Our team is ready to join thousands of pro-lifers from around the United Kingdom in being outspoken for the right to life.

Abortion kills pre-born children, the most innocent among us, and any country that accepts abortion cannot truly claim to respect the right to life for all human beings.

The doors open at 10:00 a.m. to The Emmanuel Centre where you will have the opportunity to meet a few members of the CitizenGO team. We will be in the expo asking pro-life attendees to sign our important petition: STOP DIY ABORTION.

Before the march portion of the event starts, please make sure to stop by our expo booth. We are offering supporters a free pro-life t-shirt to wear during the march and rally to Parliament Square.

    It’s simple:

Meet our a few members of our team at the expo.
Sign our important petition: STOP DIY ABORTION.
We will hook you up with a free t-shirt
March and then rally at Parliament Square.
We can’t wait to see you there.

Thank you to everyone who made it along to the March For Life on Saturday. It was an amazing day with thousands of people taking to the streets in London to stand up for the unborn and women facing unplanned pregnancies.

It was great to meet so many of you at our stall, during the rally and in Parliament Square after. You can see more of the day in the photos that we have published here – this includes photos from the march and our photo wall at LifeFest.

We have also published an article on our news service with further reporting from the day.

INVITE YOUR MP TO A PARLIAMENTARY EVENT

Today, MPs and Peers have returned to Parliament and to a very busy remainder of the year.

Baroness Meacher’s assisted suicide Bill received a First Reading in the House of Lords on 26 May and will be proceeding onto a Second Reading shortly.

It is critical that the Government does not give in to the assisted suicide lobby and rejects any moves to introduce assisted suicide to the UK.

As part of its work to ensure that the Government does not support assisted suicide and that, as a society, we continue to improve end-of-life care, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dying Well is hosting a parliamentary event tomorrow evening.

At the event, MPs, MSPs, MSs and Peers will hear directly from international medical professionals on their concerns about assisted suicide and euthanasia, based on their experiences in jurisdictions where they have been legalised.

    TAKE ACTION

It is vital that as many parliamentarians as possible attend the event on Tuesday to ensure they are aware of the negative impact that assisted suicide and euthanasia has had overseas.

We have launched a tool on our website today which makes it easy for you to send an email to your local politician asking them to attend the event. Please click the button below to contact your MP now. It only takes 30 seconds.

Click here to email your MP now
    Many thanks,

Texas as a flashpoint for women’s rights
Re: Texas’s new abortion law is an attack on medical practice and women’s rights, say doctors Janice Hopkins Tanne. 374:doi 10.1136/bmj.n2176
    Dear Editor,

It is reassuring to read the words of American doctors who are opposing the recent draconian restrictions on abortion in Texas. Texas law Senate Bill 8 (SB8) is a severe attack on women’s rights. In a 2013 report, the United Nations Special Rapporteur noted that denial of legal abortion and post-abortion care is a violation of the United Nations Convention against Torture[1] with significant physical and mental health consequences for women. Women in countries with restrictive abortion laws face additional barriers in accessing care. Some resort to unsafe abortion, leading to increases in avoidable maternal mortality.[2] Conversely, liberalising abortion laws is associated with a reduction in these avoidable deaths.[3] The evidence is clear: women’s lives improve when abortion is available as a choice.

The effects of abortion restriction are unequally distributed by socioeconomic class and race.[4] In the long term, restriction may also widen existing socioeconomic disparities.[5] Abortion restriction is hence also an issue of socioeconomic and racial health inequities, which is particularly relevant in light of the Black Lives Matter movement and subsequent efforts to combat racism in medicine.[6]

Doctors, medical students, and allied healthcare staff are increasingly using their platforms to advocate for social change. Over the past few years, they have written articles, devised charters and created teaching materials to address racism in healthcare. The Mind the Gap handbook, created by UCL medical student Malone Mukwende to illustrate clinical signs in brown skin tones, is a particularly impressive example of these efforts. As an ethnic minority medical student, I am overjoyed to be able to participate in these grassroots initiatives and witness expressions of solidarity from others. I hope to see this solidarity extended to the cause of women’s rights.

Gendered disparities are just as endemic to medicine as racial biases. Women have been systematically underrepresented in clinical trials.[7] The justification for this usually relates to the 1977 Thalidomide scandal or variation in hormones due to the menstrual cycle being inconvenient for researchers, however, this exclusion results in suboptimal dosing regimens for female patients.[8] If women are included in study populations, another challenge is that data may be presented sex dis-aggregated which still obscures differences. Even the normal ranges of biomarkers such as troponin may be skewed towards male patients.[9] A study of medical school curricula in the US found that few include teaching on these issues, and most treat men as the “default human” used in diagrams, physiology, drug dosage calculations and so on.10 No such analysis of UK medical school curriculums exists in the literature, indicating a general dearth of information about this issue.

The COVID19 pandemic has widened inequalities and inequities in several ways, including racial and gendered impacts. The pandemic has resulted in reduced access to family planning services, worsened gendered socioeconomic disparities and increased women’s risk of experiencing domestic violence.[11] The widespread switch to remote consultations, although necessitated by the pandemic, reduces privacy and hence may reduce the likelihood of people disclosing ongoing domestic violence to healthcare staff who would otherwise serve as an important contact point for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence.[12] How might we address this barrier? Beyond that, what resources might we devise to help women seeking abortion access in highly stigmatised environments, such as Northern Ireland?[13] How might we begin to correct historic and current biases against women in medicine?

The path ahead is long and arduous, but we have examples to follow. The recent worldwide collaboration at every level of healthcare attempting to dismantle racism can serve as a model for how to approach medical misogyny. The first step is to acknowledge the problem. I urge organisations such as the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to publish statements on SB8 as stigma and political attempts to restrict abortion are also issues that affect women in the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland. I also call on healthcare professionals and students to open up discussions on women’s rights and gendered bias in medicine. I am heartened by surveys showing that 82% of British GPs described themselves as broadly pro-choice[14] and 83% of UCL medical students at similarly identified as pro-choice.[15] Although attitudes towards abortion vary be location, there is hence some evidence that a large number of my colleagues would defend women’s right to bodily autonomy. I hope in the coming weeks the medical profession as a whole can use our platforms in a positive way to advocate for women’s rights, and that we can have conversations about gendered biases in medicine. Our patients need this reckoning now more than ever.

Dear RT HON SAJID JAVID …SIR
I am contacting you after reading about The Womans equality Party and their pro abortion harassment to you by blocking your phone lines it came to my notice over the weekend and I am shocked indeed you Constituency inbox is full

The pro abortionists are absolutely hell bent on getting this DIY Home abortion to be made permanent ……for many many years the pro abortionists used the back street abortion argument no return to the backstreet’s was their chant ……well strangely enough they are now fighting tooth and nail to keep a new kind of backstreet abortion also called Telemedicine whereby someone who has never had a face to face consultation is sent abortion pills through the post ……already there are deep dangers here no one really knows who those abortifacients are for …their age……their babies gestational age……the state of their physical and mental health …..
These abortifacients are then taken and after a while the abortion starts …..the way it has been described is absolutely unbelievable and through all this trauma the tiny doomed baby is seen before being disposed of in a rubbish bin or the toilet
Their can be dire complications for the Mother indeed only last week Ambulance services are reporting a large increase in 999 calls for DIY Abortions

Sadly Mr B Johnson PM along with MR M Hancock MP decided off their own bats that this would be an easy way out and after denying it would noy happen it did and without any passage through Parliament the DIY abortion was allowed and thousands of pre born babies have lost their lives through it
Believe me The Conservative Party will suffer for this outrageous behaviour at The Next General Election …pro life people are made a laughing stock of by pro Abortionists but we do have Votes ……..and these very far left man hating Groups will not be voting Conservative whatever they try to do to appease them

There is a group online called Mumsnet a very pro abortion site if you look on there at the truly horrendous stories of D I Y Abortions written by those who underwent them and a lot of them in extreme trauma ….yet these feminist Groups who claim to care about Females of all ages ……are still campaigning for more of these hideous “””proceedures “”””

Subject: contraception causes abortion —— f

    Dear ladies & gentlemen,

the Times newspaper in the UK stated the French government plans to reduce the abortion rate by giving free contraception to women up to the age of 25 (Adam Sage, page 33, Friday 10th Sept.); that contraception is free for girls under 19; a French health ministry report showed the French abortion rate has increased steadily over the last 20 years.

Those who support abortion, those who oppose it, and others, all assert there is a close connection between abortion and contraception. Directors of the Brooks Advisory Centre for abortion referrals
    ( https://www.brook.org.uk/your-life/the-abortion-process/ )
stated publicly: the availability of contraception leads to an increase in the abortion rate. Pope John Paul II taught that abortion and contraception are fruits of the same tree. In 1992, the U.S. Supreme Court asserted abortion and contraception are of the same character (see P.S. below).

Everyone who cares about human life nowadays needs to be clear about contraception and abortion. Sexual acts have two aspects: to unite the married couple, and to create new human life. By separating the unitive and the life-giving dimensions of sex, contraception denies the truth of the male and female bodies united in completely self-giving love within married commitment. It degrades sex to using a human being, with rights and duties, as a means to an end (pleasure). Also, it leads to killing human beings by abortion. I believe the problem of abortion will never be resolved until it is fully accepted how much contraception causes it, and how much giving life is integral to sex.

Let us pray for the grace to forgive those who practice contraception, which is morally wrong and leads to abortion. The positive alternative to contraception is sex, in the commitment of marriage, which is both procreative and unitive (see P.S.).

Thankyou for reading a long email. I hope it is helpful.

P.S. perhaps the quotes above need some references. Dr Judith Bury, former director of Edinburgh’s Brook Advisory Centre, an abortion referral agency, wrote: “Twenty years ago women were more resigned to unwanted pregnancy, but as they have become more conscious of preventing conception, so they have come to request terminations when contraception fails. There is overwhelming evidence that, contrary to what you might expect, the availability of contraception leads to an increase in the abortion rate.” (The Scotsman, 29 June 1981).

Another Brook Advisory Centre director, Jean Malcolm, reportedly said: “It’s partly because of a greater availability of contraception that there are more pregnancies. I suppose it’s almost inevitable”. (Edinburgh and Lothian Post, 11 January 1992).

Pope John Paul II taught in ‘Evangelium Vitae’: ‘abortion and contraception are fruits of the same tree’ (E.V, 13).

In 1992, the United States Supreme Court stated in judgment: ‘In some critical respects abortion is of the same character is of the same character as the decision to use contraception (para. 852)… For two decades people have organized intimate relationships and made choices that define their views of themselves and their places in society, in reliance on the availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail (para. 856)’ (Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania vs. Casey, 1992, para.s 852, 856
    ( https://www.law.cornell.edu/ supct/html/91-744.ZO.html )
    ( https://supreme.justia.com/ cases/federal/us/505/833/case. html )

The Catholic church promotes true sexuality instead of contraception, through in St John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, popularized by Christopher West and others: sex that both creates life and unites within the commitment of marriage. The best English translation of the ToB today is Michael Waldstein’s ‘Man and Woman He Created Them’.

      Wendy Walker,

That’s a great article, and very true. It’s just assumed in the UK that abortion is a good thing, that we all agree except for a few extremists. Thanks for posting.

This is some very encouraging news – Nancy Pelosi, top US politician who is very pro-abortion while claiming to be a Catholic, is having a campaign of prayer and fasting organised for her conversion, by her archbishop!

      Nicky,

That is a good response from +Cordileone. Certainly more Catholic than my inclination to pray for a heart attack for Pelosi!

She really is brazen, saying “I come to this as a Catholic mother” when her despicable party recently voted to introduce a bill granting a right to abortion on demand at any stage of a pregnancy.

Hopefully her brazen comments give new impetus to the USCCB moves to deny Communion to pro-abortion “catholic” politicians.

    Subject: LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    Dear Mr Geordie Gregg ..Sir
    Editor of The Daily Mail
I am e -mailing in you in absolute disgust regarding the article in todays D Mail regarding the far Lefts protest regarding Abortion in Texas today in London
The writer a Bhvishya Patel proclaims hundreds marched …only at the next sentence it had gone to THOUSANDS ………who are we to believe then ?
I have ask to ask WHY you allowed this article [if you did ]apologies if you did not I have always regarded The D M as one of the better newspapers and have it every day but I will have to rethink this now
This is blatent discrimination to pro life people because in September THOUSANDS REALL DID MARCH ….in peaceful loving ,heart warming unity to stop Abortion there was no trouble Police were there and there was all of about 30 pro abortionists in a little corner …Organised by March For Life there were people of every creed ,colour ,Race and Faith and none …YET no pictures or reports about that there were also some amazingly beautiful touching and honest speeches that inspired and touched hearts and mind …so WHY could not the General Public through its papers know of them ?
It is quite amusing really to see all the socialist worker placards …do es The Daily Mail ever think that they will read and purchase your Paper ?because you so freely allowed them an article !What a joke
These people have a total disregard for Human Life but tread accidently on a Snail and they would go absolutely berserk
Can you imagine advocating abortion up to Birth for any reason ?
Another dreadful case of bad reporting was when brave Heidi Crowter went to Court to stop severe discrimination of pre Born babies with Downs Syndrome sadly she lost but will appeal ….next day all you could read was DOWNS WOMAN LOSES CASE …not her name ..shocking indeed

As you will read in the comments so far your readers are asking what has this got to do with The Uk ?
Every Human life has value what right has anyone to decree someone else cannot be born and as Human Life begins at fertilisation then every abortion takes that life or two if it is twins
Please look deeply into this if you are not aware it does not bode well for your Paper .Despite the fact these pro abortionists claim to be a majority they are in fact a very small minority
I leave you with your conscience
    Yours sadly and deeply concerned

This is a shocker (everything involving Pope Francis seems to be a shocker…)

Here he is clearly at ease with Nancy Pelosi, one of those “devout Catholics” who is working hard to make procured abortion (murder of the unborn) legal up to the moment of birth -that is to say, she wants to permit, in law, the killing of infants. This is not a new idea, by the way. There was an Oxford Professor who suggested it some years ago, in England, arguing (logically enough) that the same reasons should apply at and immediately after birth, as apply to the babies in the womb.

Taylor Marshall is commenting on the handshakes between Pope and Pelosi, plus her mask-wearing (or lack of it – I’ve not had time to watch the entire video yet) but no mention, as far as I can tell, about her lack of a head covering, traditional for women, until this pontificate, I think I’m right in saying, but if I’m not, some beauty will be sure to tell me 😀

    N O T I C E . . .

I have just received the following email from a reader, seeking prayers for his wife, Janice – she is expecting twins and has taken ill…

… [Janice] was ill yesterday and went to the GP, who gave her antibiotics. Later on she was violently sick and could hardly stay awake. She called the Maternity Hospital and was told to come in. Of course, they insisted on a test for the Chinese virus and it’s positive. She’s been in hospital since and is very dehydrated and low in potassium. Thankfully, the babies are fine to date, thanks be to God. She’s not eaten anything for two days.

Please pray for Janice – entrusting her well-being (and her unborn twins) to the loving care of Our Lady of Lourdes, Health of the Sick…

Just for info, I have now contacted Bishops Keenan (Diocese of Paisley) and Toal (Motherwell) to see if I can garner any interest in this ‘Adoration to End Abortion’ initiative, here in Scotland.

I made the point that where America leads, Britain often follows. As Fr Linus Clovis reminded us in his ‘Civil War’ video, Catholics fight the good fight on their knees. It would be superb if as many parishes as possible could stage Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on St. Andrew’s Day evening, perhaps continuing overnight into 1st December.

There are of course safety and security concerns, not every parish will be able to participate. If some have to lock up at, say, 10:00pm then so be it. At least we will have done something. I await further developments – but won’t be holding my breath.

I now have a response from the Chancellor of the Diocese of Motherwell…..

    Dear Mr McKay,

I refer to your email of15th November, the contents of which I have discussed with Bishop Toal.

The Bishop has decided that he will not be proposing that parishes take part in this venture.

    Best wishes.

      Pat,

Well done for writing. That the Bishop has decided not to participate in such a praiseworthy, spiritual enterprise, tells us all we need to know about him, if we didn’t already know it.

Having said that, the fact that the diocesan churches are effectively closed – the bishops and priests were none too pleased that the group of Protestant ministers led by Dr William Philip succeeded in getting the Government ruling on closure of churches overturned – probably means that it is now even more difficult than in normal times to drum up active support for anything these days.

Which suits their apparently apathetic souls only too well.

There are encouraging signs that the US Supreme Court could move to overturn Roe-Wade, or otherwise significantly limit abortion in the USA.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59495210

Of course, the war on this repugnant and inhumane practice is not over until it is completely eradicated, however this would be a major victory and a welcome advance.

As Pat notes above, where America leads, Britain often follows.

This would be President Trump’s shining legacy, given any Court decision will be built on the appointments he made (Gorsuch / Kavanagh / Coney-Barrett) during his time in office.

I can’t help thinking, reading this horrendous and utterly sad report, that this is one consequence of disrespecting, if not disdaining Downs Syndrome children in our society. This lovely little “Downs” boy* was tortured and murdered by his own father and so-called stepmother. More likely a cohabitee – what, in Scotland, we used to call a “bidey-in”.

The following email arrived in my inbox this morning – forwarded by an activist pro-life reader (Margaret) who lives in Aberdeen. I encourage everyone to act….

    Dear Margaret,

We would like to ask for your help with regards to the proposal of buffer zone in Bournemouth outsid bpas on Ophir Road.

Before BCP council makes final decision on buffer zone they will take into account all letters they receive( you don’t have to live in Bournemouth). It is about to express your view on how its important there is no buffer zone as we can offer an alternative to women’s crisis pregnancy. A number of women have accepted the help we offer , people thank us for what we do.

Emails need to be sent asap to those people:

    Bobbie.Dove@bcpcouncil.gov.uk,
    Drew.Mellor@bcpcouncil.gov.uk,
    Julia.Howlett@bcpcouncil.gov.uk,
    Jane.Kelly@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

And please please spread the word to others. The more people write the better.

What is IT like in other places that you know of, have they managed to make buffer zones happening?
    Thank you, God bless

    N O T I C E . . .

A gentleman (not a Catholic) contacted me this afternoon, to tell me about the efforts of the local Council in Bournemouth, to impose a buffer zone around the BPAS clinic in Bournemouth.

There will be a meeting (organised by SPUC) in St Thomas More church on Friday 23 September, at 7.30pm.

Hopefully readers in the area, and anyone within travelling distance, will attend this meeting to support the work of those seeking to prevent this disgraceful erosion of the right to peaceful assembly, and prayer, with the intention of saving the lives of many innocent unborn babies.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Today marks the 55th anniversary of the Abortion Act coming into effect in 1968 – six months after it received Royal Assent.

Since then, a staggering 10,135,618 unborn babies have lost their lives to abortion across England, Wales, and Scotland.
    https://righttolife.org.uk/55years?utm_source=SUBSCRIPTION+LIST&utm_campaign=299d80dfd5-abortion_act_anniversary_2023&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_9297ae5f15-299d80dfd5-151553377

We should pray, especially today, for an end to this state sanctioned murder of the unborn and always act to do whatever we can politically, to bring this scandal to the attention of local and national politicians.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn, pray for us!
