Nicola Stalin Sturgeon & Scotland’s Mickey Mouse Media – We Need a “Kenny MacIntyre” Urgently!

Nicola Stalin Sturgeon & Scotland’s Mickey Mouse Media – We Need a “Kenny MacIntyre” Urgently!

From The Scotsman Newspaper…

Last weekend, the Scotsman gave due prominence to a story it pursued for 16 months. The Information Commissioner found the Scottish government acted unlawfully in withholding data which informed their approach to the second Covid wave.

By any objective standard, it was an important story. The government had acted unlawfully, which is a sufficiently unusual finding against any government to be of significance in itself.

The subject of the Scotsman’s Freedom of Information request remains of intense relevance, given the need for public trust in the basis for taking these decisions. Indeed, this was the reason given by the Information Commissioner for her ruling.

Put these two factors together and you have, surely, a story that should also have been leading every news bulletin in Scottish broadcasting. Instead, as far as I can trace, there was total silence. The “unlawful” action of the Scottish government was ignored by our national broadcasters.

This is no isolated example. I recently drew attention to the response of the Convention of Scotland Local Authorities (Cosla) to the Scottish government budget having been side-lined. All 32 council leaders in Scotland, including SNP ones, signed a letter of outrage to the First Minister about the latest assault on their ability to deliver services – perhaps a unique happening.

If the parallel had occurred under Mrs Thatcher in the 1980s, I suggested, it would have led every Scottish TV news bulletin for days. A major furore. Now, in the age of devolution and SNP dominance, it was not worthy of a mention, far less a running story, demanding responses from ministers.

Drawing attention to such examples can easily turn into a random list of criticisms, brushed aside by BBC Scotland and STV with the old chestnut: we’re attacked by both sides, therefore we must be in the middle. So let’s pre-empt that one. This is not a claim of deliberate bias but a questioning of attitude, training and standards.

As every first-year student of journalism should know, 90 per cent of bias (as it emerges) comes from news selection, rather than doctoring the script. If story goes unreported, the nature of content does not arise. The relevant question is about how news is defined and I have quoted two examples of stories which might well have led any Scottish news bulletin, but were discarded.

There is no channel for challenging these judgements but neither is there an obligation to respect them, particularly when a pattern exists and one has the advantage of remembering better times.

The issue can be addressed by each of the political reporters we see on our screens answering honestly the question: “When did you last originate or pursue a story which remotely inconvenienced the Scottish government?”

Most of what passes for political reporting by Scotland’s broadcasters is actually regurgitation of what is handed down by those in authority. Journalism is something quite different. It is about finding things out and particularly things that those in authority do not want you to find out. How often is that challenge met or even attempted?

You need to be of a certain age to remember Kenny MacIntyre when he was BBC Scotland’s fearless political reporter. There really should be a Kenny MacIntyre Memorial Award but maybe not, for who would be eligible to enter? Kenny’s only bias was in favour of finding stories which inconvenienced politicians – regardless of status or party, day after day.

He would have held in contempt the present-day school of reporting – let’s stand outside Holyrood reading the latest communique, and would you be so kind as to give us a prepared sound-bite, minister.

Kenny’s firm view was that if a politician couldn’t stand up to a hard, door-stepping interview then he or he shouldn’t be in the job, and he would chase them down corridors to say so.

Scotland’s broadcasters need to change their mindset and play their part in holding authority to account. The problem is not that its political coverage is consciously biased, just lazy and acquiescent to the powers that be, because nothing more is demanded of it.  Click here to read at source and view short video clip…

One commentator on The Scotsman article writes…

Like it or hate it…the article provides two specific examples of the Scottish media deliberately avoiding any issue that portrays the Scottish Government in a bad light. You only have to watch Scotland Tonight to see for a fact the claims made in this article are spot on. Watch them ‘interview’ someone connected to any party other than the SNP, and you’ll see them interrupt constantly, fire question after question while the interviewee is responding and argue with almost everything said. If you then watch them interviewing anyone connected to the SNP, they not only allow them to waffle on uninterrupted, they actually set them up to do so with their questions. It’s like a party political broadcast on behalf of the SNP!
And before we get the usual suspects on here wailing and gnashing about Tory media and bias…just watch any interview Wee Jimmy does with London based political shows where she is interviewed by REAL journalists like Andrew Neil or Andrew Marr. Where she is actually faced with facts, figures and evidence of her total incompetence and by the end of the interview is stammering, stuttering and has a face like a Ribena Berry. If only we could see the same from the Scottish media.

Another replies…

It’s only whenever she appears on BBC London based political programmes she gets asked serious questions, challenged & found out. To the point the SNP actually complained to the BBC about the treatment she has received, because it never happens in Scotland

Editor writes…

Today, we have a classic example of the manipulative SNP at work in the media.  The March for Freedom which took place across the world – fighting vaccine passports and other restrictions on our freedom, using Covid as the excuse – drew around 4,000 thousand marchers in Glasgow, yet they are not being mentioned in the reports I’ve seen so far.  Only the independence lobby – representing at most, 1,000 marchers – is being reported. The majority, then, were marching, not for “freedom from England”,  but for freedom from Covid restrictions.  Yet, the SNP marchers headlined their event and banners as “All Under One Banner” (AUOB) giving the impression that everyone participating is campaigning for an independent Scotland. Devious isn’t the word.  Off the top of my head, I can’t think of one that totally fits the bill.

If Catholics are participating in such deception, they ought to think again.  The apparently much-hated English/Tories are not oppressing us -our nationalist Scottish Anything-but-Dear-Leader IS.  she’s tailormade for dictatorial office and given the subservience of the Scottish media, Church leaders and the majority of Christians, are we ever likely to get rid of her? Rhetorical question.  It’s obvious now that we have kissed goodbye to our God-given freedoms,  and it doesn’t look like we’re going to get them back anytime soon…

How I’d love to see Neil Oliver interviewing Nicola Sturgeon – he’s a Scot who can see right through the SNP. The short interview below was broadcast earlier this evening on GB News when Neil chatted with Dr William Philip, the minister who led the court challenge against the closure of churches – and won. We have Dr Philip to thank for the re-opening of churches in Scotland – not, sadly, any Scottish bishop. Just prior to the interview you are about to see, Neil’s two guests were hammer and tongs in argument – one being very Covid-restrictions-friendly while the other would feel very much at home on this blog, during Covid discussions, at least 😀 So, enjoy the conversation below…

Dr William Philip is a national treasure. If only we had some Catholic clergy as willing to speak out. Of course, I know he doesn’t have a bishop on his tail, so he is freer in that sense, but still, we could use a Catholic voice in the media now and then.

To be fair, one of the Glasgow priests agreed – some time ago, before lockdown – to be interviewed by me for Catholic Truth. We did the entire interview, which was really good, but couldn’t post it for technical reasons, the details of which escape me right now. Our video-master has now defected to the USA so goodness knows when we will be able to re-schedule. In any event, Father was prepared to go on the record on our YouTube channel with his undiluted thoughts about the state of the Church in Scotland way back then. His responses to my questions were pleasant and calm, without any personal animosity, notwithstanding his outspoken criticism of leading churchmen. I was livid when we couldn’t publish the video, considering how good I looked in that blouse… Anyway, below, visit the link to an Open Letter in which a Glasgow priest challenges the bishops of Scotland on their lockdown response.

I know what you mean, though – it would be good to hear an outspoken priest interviewed on TV about the Church’s complicity with the Government’s Covid response but, as you indicate, there would be – more likely than not – quite a price to pay when the mitres found out! Father has, though, participated in both Freedom marches in Glasgow – the one on 8 January and again yesterday. You can see the boards he organised which read “Our freedoms come from GOD not Government!” Bravo!

You are right, of course, about Dr Philip being a national treasure. That he is, for sure.

I’ve checked YouTube for the march in Glasgow yesterday but there isn’t anything yet. The independence march is all that I can find which is a disgrace.

Dr Philip is very good, bringing God into the public square again. I agree it would be good to see Neil Oliver interviewing Sturgeon, although he might be a bit too gentle. I don’t remember the Kenny MacIntyre mentioned in the article but he sounds just the ticket, LOL!

There is more chance of Hell Freezing over than Sturgeon being Interviewed by Neil or Any Honest Journalist in Scotland. The Above Introduction was probably the Main Reason I Ditched the TV and only use the Newspapers in an Emergency. It’s bad enough the BBC giving out Total Lies without us paying for it.

I do not really Hate anyone in this World as Hatred is a very strong emotion. I do though intensely Dislike 2 People and Wee Sturgeons Both of them.

Here she is, snapping at a BBC reporter from south of the border. Just don’t dare question Ms Sturgeon!

The videos of yesterday’s freedom [from restrictions] march in Glasgow are very slow to go onto YouTube – I can’t find any. However, I’ve seen clips on other people’s phones and those looked huge. Here’s one clip to arrive in my inbox a few moments ago…

That looks really great. What a big crowd! 4,000! That’s just amazing. And the crowd look calm and well-ordered. Judging by the two marches, beginning of the month and now this one yesterday, I’d say Sturgeon just has to sit up and take notice.

I’ve just found this disgracefully biased report on MSN about the freedom march – I’ll also copy a comment from the MSN page from Amanda, who is obviously clued-up…

    amanda holden 3h

They are not anti-vax so stop with your lies and deceitful narrative. The public know what the media are up to and our distrust of you is etched in our minds

Hear, Amanda, hear! Whoever you are, may God bless your tartan socks!

    • Laura

Having seen the video of the march, I do not believe a word of that MSN report. As Amanda says, they are lying.

The description of such protests as being “anti-vax” is disgraceful. Being anti an experimental vaccination is not the same thing as being against vaccination. The dishonesty is just mind-boggling.

I don’t believe that report either, not at all. The media and police (and government) are all terrified that they are going to be held to account sooner than they expected, and this is the result. More lies, more deceit.

There’s no way I believe that MSN report. The police are not on our side and they are losing public trust, which will show in the future. They are being short-sighted by siding with the government over the removal of our freedoms. You wonder if any of them have ever read a history book. I searched on YouTube for a video about why the German people followed Hitler and IMHO it has something to teach us today – the Germans did not understand that giving Hitler the “temporary” enabling powers would put an end to democratic rule. That rings bells with me, such as the “temporary” Coronavirus Act, the “temporary” Covid restrictions etc.

That is a very informative video and the answer is clear, that Hitler succeeded because the people let him. The very same thing is happening now with Covid – history is repeating itself, though a population that is far too trusting of politicians.

Today on MSN there is another report about the arresting of the organisers of Saturday’s march

I don’t know why they don’t pre-empt this sort of thing and just put in an application. It’s strange to risk arrest when they would probably get the permission, along with the other groups who applied. If they were refused they could claim discrimination, so what’s the problem?

I am pleased to see the people of Scotland standing up. The numbers matter.

I agree with you, the numbers matter. I just hope they increase with every march (assuming there will be more to come).

That was a great turnout yesterday, very impressive.

      January 23, 2022 at 10:29 pm
  • Michaela

This video shows the strength of numbers in Glasgow today – brilliant! I watched it right to the end when they went into and came out of the Buchanan Galleries. It’s a lie to say they were intimidating – I saw one man offering a paper to a couple of females (masked) standing inside the Galleries and they refused. No problem. In fact several refused before one person accepted.

I must apologise for the very first shot in this film, where the woman (note, not a crude male) is holding a very vulgar poster. It’s the only one in the whole film, so there’s always one, isn’t there, LOL!

This second video is reporting the march in December, 2021, not Saturday, 22 January. I’ll leave it unless you say otherwise, but there is a lot of talk at the start before the march begins. I haven’t watched the whole thing, sorry, too much, too late 😀

      January 24, 2022 at 12:27 am
    • Michaela

I didn’t notice that it was a video from a march in December, so please feel free to remove. It has too many longwinded talks, anyway.

I found this one of the 8 January march, which is very good also, although you can see there were not so many people as yesterday. The woman at the end speaking into the megaphone was not going to hand it back easily, LOL!

I’ve just seen this latest report showing Sturgeon’s evil desire to keep us in masks for YEARS to come…

    Aye right.

I think the next march for freedom in Glasgow is 12 March, but I’ll double check that and confirm/advertise nearer the time. She is just not hearing us, is she? Yet.

PS I went back onto MSN to read the comments and this one says it all…

    John Gatt 11h
As usual, Wee Jimmy making up her own rules that have nothing to do with science, medical opinion or evidence, just her attempt to cling on to power. The restrictions brought in over the festive period were completely unrequired.

The SNP now ridiculously claim we didn’t see huge amounts of hospitalisations and deaths because of these nonsensical restrictions…but that’s what they would claim. The fact is England basically had the same rate of infections without the restrictions.

In their typical twisting of facts, and using their usual smoke and mirrors, the SNP claim England’s infection rate was 20% higher than ours, which makes their decision sound justified. Well done to us for saving the people.

But while this may be technically correct, it’s the same as saying 2 is 100% more than 1. The actual difference in infection rates between Scotland and England was 0.98%, a figure that’s far less convincing than 20%.

They also completely ignore the fact the virus was milder (as they were told), hospitalisations were minimal (as they were told), and there was only ONE case of anyone being on a ventilator (which they were told) and this is why hospitals weren’t swamped. It had nothing to do with restrictions.

Queen Nicola sees the pandemic as her chance to completely rule over the people. To feed her ego and enjoy her power. But it’s her only chance…because she knows she will never deliver independence.

For that reason she will continue to impose any restrictions she can, no matter how small, unjustified and scientifically unproven but the truth is the people of Scotland are no longer listening.

In my local supermarkets and stores, more and more people are ignoring the mask rule and over the festive period, those who had tickets for events that were forced to be cancelled, simply had house parties instead.

Maybe at some point, Wee Jimmy will finally realise nobody is listening to her!

    Hear, hear!

    25 January

Worth reading this article again – I’ve posted it before – from an American surgeon about the efficacy (or lack of it) of masks as protection from viruses

This made me smile… A Freedom of Information request (seeking to check if there might be a “Partygate” in Scotland) was refused – quoting from The Scotsman Newspaper…

“… However, in response to a Freedom of Information request from The Scotsman, officials refused to release internal correspondence between civil servants which included the word “party”, sent between December 1 and December 31, 2020.

Claiming the term would require “extensive information gather” by officials, they stated: “We assume that you have requested this information in relation to the recent focus on parties held in UK Government buildings.

“In that context, you should note that no such Scottish Government events took place.”

Er… isn’t that what Boris Johnson said when HE was asked about “Partygate” at the beginning of this saga?

Note: the SNP Government plans to make some, at least, of the “temporary” Covid powers permanent. Didn’t you see this prophesied on this blog many times in the past two years? Just sayin’…
